HARVESTER BACKSNACK PROGRAM
Dear Parents/Guardian,
We are pleased to offer the Harvesters BackSnack Program to Horizon! Any family in need who feels they could benefit from their student having nutritious food for the weekend may join.
The BackSnack package will be sent home discreetly with your student on every Friday, or the last day of the school week. This food is for your child only. Please explain to your child that he/she should not sell, trade or give away the food.
Each BackSnack package is full of kid-friendly foods. This food is collected and distributed by Harvesters. If you have a concern about allergies or the quality of a product, please remove the item from the package and contact me, and I will do everything I can to assist you.
If you are interested in the BackSnack Program for your student(s), please contact: Kim Gasiorowski at 913-667-3535 or kgasiorowski@usd232.org. Families who sign up by October 7 will be part of our first round of BackSnacks, but we will be accepting new families throughout the school year.
Thank you,
Kim Gasiorowski

KANSAS TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
TO ALL STUDENTS AND PARENTS:
The De Soto School District has been an important and strong participant in the Kansas Teacher of the Year Program for many years. De Soto has had thirteen state finalists and twelve semi-finalists represented in the program since 2000. Two of our very own teachers were chosen as The Kansas Teacher of the Year; Keil Hileman in 2004 and Jeri Powers in 2008. This is truly unprecedented! Phillip Hamilton (DHS) and Shara Reilly (ME) will be representing our district in the 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year program. The 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year will be announced on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Wichita.
We would like for you to nominate any teacher whom you consider to be an outstanding and effective educator and whom you or your child has had as a teacher. This person must be a tenured employee of USD 232. If there is a De Soto educator whom you believe to be outstanding and deserving of special recognition, please fill out the form below. This form needs to be returned to your building principal by noon on October 14, 2016.
I would like to nominate ________________________________________________
