Parent Access to Canvas Learning Management System is Now Available
Parent/guardian access to our learning management system, Canvas, is now available. With your parent account, you will be able to view you child's assignments and coursework.
Please click here for detailed instructions on how to create your parent account. You will need to use a web browser, and your student will need to be logged in to their Canvas account on a separate device in order to generate the required pairing code.
We encourage you to create your account and become familiar with Canvas. If you need additional support with creating your parent account, please find a pre-recorded information meeting regarding Canvas on our website, www.fraser.k12.mi.us/canvas.
PBIS STARbucks Celebration
S - Show Kindness
T - Take Responsibility
A - Always Safe
R - Respect Others
S - Show You Care
When a student goes above and beyond demonstrating the STARS criteria for our monthly theme, they earn a STARbuck. Every 6 weeks we have a celebration for those students earning at least 3 STARbucks!
Our first theme was Prepare to Learn and we had over 90% of our students earn the STARbucks reward time. Students got to choose to participate in either a STEM activity, Craft, or Outdoor Activity. All of our staff and students had a great time celebrating our good choices and STAR behavior!
October's theme is Respect - a way of thinking or treating someone.
Student-Led Conferences
We are looking forward to having our teachers meet with you and your child during Disney's Student - Led Conferences. During this time, students will showcase their goals and academic progress. It is important to include your child in these conferences so that they can take ownership of their academic plan for the year.
Conference dates and times are as follows:
Wednesday, October 26th from 4:30 to 7:30 PM
Thursday, October 27th from 1:00-3:30 PM & 4:30-7:30 PM
On Thursday, October 13th each classroom teacher will be sending home classroom and/or grade-level specific conference information via email. Our teachers will once again be using the online scheduling service, Sign-Up Genius, to do so. This process is very easy, and only takes a few minutes to sign-up for a time. If you have multiple children at Disney, you will receive an email from EACH teacher and will need to review information from them to ensure multiple conferences are scheduled. Links will also be included in next week’s edition of Behind the Magic.
We look forward to seeing everyone at conferences. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Halloween around Disney
- Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Monday, October 31st. Weather permitting, we will parade out the main doors and around the building. Our kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors!
- Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels will be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check.
- Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Monday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.
PTO TRUNK-OR-Treat
2nd Grade Restorative Circles
"I will speak from my heart with respect for myself and others." This is the opening statement that our second graders are saying at Disney every day before we start a restorative circle. Both classes are learning what it means to be a positive part of a community in our class and school.
As part of our SEL practices we use a talking piece for each circle and share things from what our favorite foods to what feelings we have about experiences in our lives. We are working to build a strong connection in each class where every student feels safe and validated, knowing that every voice matters.
At the end of each circle we close with this statement, " I am grateful for myself and my class." We look forward to seeing each student grow as a person and as a member of our class family. The goal is that we teachers and students we all feel supported in our learning environment.
Parking Lot Reminders
Safety is a top priority at Disney and we can all use these important reminders from time to time.
- Please be distraction free - refrain from using cell phones, loud music, or other distracting activities. Pay attention and be on the lookout for people walking through the lots
- Please do not arrive before 3:15 to line up for dismissal.
- Please use Disney's parking lot for arrival and dismissal. Parking on Kelly or in the subdivision will likely result in traffic tickets.
- The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking and exiting traffic only. Families may not walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
- The South lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for staff parking only.
- When in the drop-off/pick-up lane, please pull all the way forward and do not exit your vehicle. Students should quickly exit/enter the passenger side.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please help everyone in the Disney Community by following our parking lot procedures. We understand that our dismissal can be stressful and intense with the high volume of car pickup students. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely.
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is an educational program in which student teams, made up of 2-7 members, solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at fun, local Tournaments. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges, and develop innovative thinking strategies. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills, they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.
Destination Imagination is dependent on parent participation. Each team formed will need 1 or 2 team managers to help facilitate the team in solving the challenge. Each team will also need an appraiser to appraise at the regional tournament.
