Lake Elementary School News
Weekly Update for December 20
I want to remind everyone that the last day of school before winter break will be Wednesday, December 22. We have a lot of fun winter and holiday events going on, including performances by our Kindergarteners and Dolphtones! We hope we will be able to see many of you on our campus, if your child is performing.
Please be sure to stop by and check the Lost and Found before December 22 as we will be donating any unclaimed items the week of the 27th.
December 22 will be "sweater day!" Ugly sweaters, holiday sweaters, fancy sweaters--whatever your child would like to wear!
Thank you for a great first half of the school year, we look forward to a great winter break!
From Lake, with Love
“Small Change, Big Impact” is going on right now! We will have collection jars for spare change at our musical and PTA events, as well as in the front office through December 22nd. Every cent collected will be donated to a community in Western Kentucky that has been impacted by the recent tornados. Electronic donations can be made via the link below, please mention Kentucky or "Small Change, Big Impact" in the notes at checkout. www.lakedolphins.org/products/2021-2022-lake-pta-donation
We thank you in advance for your donations.
Instructional Minutes Change beginning on January 11, 2022
Due to the recent agreement between VUSD and VTA to use two of the 182 instructional days as professional development days, the district and union have agreed to add lost instructional minutes needed to meet the state's minimum requirements to the remaining school days for the 2021-2022 school year. The changes will affect all elementary schools with TK-5 classrooms.
Three additional minutes will be added to the end of each school day beginning January 11, 2022. This will provide the district with the needed minutes to meet all required minimum minutes for all elementary grade spans.

Biometric Finger Screener
Hello Lake Families,
Linked below is a letter informing you that the Child Nutrition Department will begin using a state of the art Bio-Metric identification system starting in the week of December 13th. This message is to inform you that we will begin the enrollment process on December 13th. If you would like more information on this process, or would like to opt out of the enrollment process, please contact the CNS offices at 760-726-2170, Ext. 42000. If you would like to opt out, Ana in the Lake front office can provide you with the form. We are excited to bring this added protection and security to our students and families in Vista and look forward to serving you in the year to come.
After October 15th, all staff and volunteers will need to be vaccinated against covid-19 or complete weekly testing, per state guidelines.
We are slowly rolling out the opportunity for essential volunteers on campuses. The purpose of an “essential volunteer” is to enhance the education of our students. The following requirements are for all essential volunteers on campuses:
Must wear a mask at all times (indoors and outdoors)
Complete school volunteer application
Show proof of full vaccination OR provide a negative PCR test weekly
Essential volunteers must follow the guidelines below:
Never enter the classroom when students are present
Always work with students outside the classroom (student and volunteer must be masked at all times outside)
PTA/ELAC/SSC/Foundation parents may be on campus to perform school business
If you would like to volunteer on campus, please reach out directly to your child's classroom teachers. Due to restrictions and the need to monitor vaccination status/testing, we will limit volunteers to 2 parents per class, TOTAL.
Some teachers may not be comfortable or ready to have volunteers back on campus yet, even just from a schedule management standpoint. Please be patient and reach out to the front office to get put on a potential volunteer list if you do not get an opportunity to volunteer with your child's teacher.
- Monday is a minimum day! Dismissal is at 12:36pm. There is no second-chance breakfast on minimum days, so please send your child with a snack, or have them get breakfast before school starts from 7:25-7:40.
- No Dogs on campus. As much as we love our furry friends, we can not have them on campus. This is VUSD policy, so if you need to bring your dog, you'll have to pick your child up at Lake Park. Thank you!
- Early pickup: If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please do so prior to 1:30pm. After that you'll need to wait until regular dismissal time. If you have questions, please call the office.
- Do not drop your child off prior to 7:25am. We have no supervision available before this time. Students need to stay in the car until 7:25 if you are in the line.
- Please have your child bring a water bottle and mask, daily. Donations are needed for small water cups for those students who forgot their water bottle. Small, disposable children's mask donations are also greatly appreciated! You can send these to the office.
Important Health & Safety Information
Call into the office each time your child is absent. Do not send your child to school if they are sick. In case you missed it, please see the covid-19 notification. Let's all work together to keep eachother safe during this uncertain time. I encourage all parents and students to wear a mask during drop-off and pick-up.
If you ever have questions about how the district is handling health & safety, please check the health & safety page on the VUSD website.
Please read the presentation notes below each slide for more details!
