Report cards went home today! Be sure to sign and return the envelope! All items inside are yours to keep!

Warming the Hearts of Frisco January 16-February 9th

Smith STUCO is collecting the following items for The Samaritan Inn. We are wanting to give back to our community by providing gently used or new adult or children sized winter wear items. Please donate the following:

  • stocking hats
  • gloves or mittens
  • scarves
  • blankets
  • jackets/coats

Have your child place all items in the box in our POD labeled, "Warming the Hearts of Frisco." Each week their will be a reward for the POD with the most items collected for that week.Thank you for helping his keep those less fortunate warm during this cold season!

Meet the Instrument Night for 5th Grade

Come to Clark Middle School on Thursday January 25th or January 29th from 4:30-8 to try out the instruments in the band. This is a FREE EVENT, and a great way for your child to see what instrument best suites him or her. You MUST schedule an appointment with Ben Katz. Please email him at katzb@friscoisd.org


5th Grade is heading to the Symphony!

February 7, 2018 Fifth Grade is going to the Plano Symphony and Orchestra in Richardson. Your child received a permission slip last Friday. It is due on FRIDAY!!!! Please fill out and return to your child's teacher. You will also need to access mypaymentsplus.com to pay $8 for this learning experience.

Box Top Collection is Underway!

In order to help our school raise money, please collect and turn in the box tops no later than February 23rd! The class that collects the most will receive a SPECIAL PRIZE!

Yearbooks for Sale - Last day to buy is February 16th!

Yearbooks are on sale and can be ordered through February 16 at https://goo.gl/QGzrCr for $20. When yearbooks arrive at the end of the school year, we will NOT have extras. Don’t miss your chance to order your child a yearbook with all the greatest memories of the year… Mrs. Young and Mrs. Sibley’s bubble suit showdown, Smith Stampede, Celebrate Smith, field trips, class parties, and much, much more!

Dismissal Reminders

A few important reminders that will help us dismiss our students safely and efficiently:

  • If you are walking to pick up your child, please remember no pets are allowed on campus.
  • Pull as far up as possible in the car line so we can keep the line moving. The teachers will make sure your child gets to your car.
  • Cross the road in designated crosswalks.
  • Place your child's name sign in the window. If you need another sign, please let your child's homeroom teacher know.

Mrs. Pelias is at it Again

Knitting Club was such a sucess that Mrs. Pelias is starting photography club in the library. See below for more details. Students can also pick up a permission form from the library

Cold Weather and Recess

When bundling your child up for school each morning, please keep the following recess guidelines in mind:

We will go out for recess if the temperature/wind chill is ABOVE 37 degrees.

If the temperature/wind chill is BETWEEN 32 and 37 degrees, we will go outside for half of recess.

We will have indoor recess if the temperature/wind chill is BELOW 32 degrees.

Teachers check the temperature/wind chill shortly before recess time (12:30 pm).

Social and Emotional Learning at Smith

January is a great month to pause and reflect on goals we have met and goals we still need to work on. This lesson will help student use the WOOP acronym to set some short term goals.

W-Wish- what is a wish you have for yourself, something you can work towards.

O- Outcome-What would it look like if your wish came true?

O-Obstacle-What is something inside you that is keeping you from your wish(goal)

P-Plan-Make an If/Then plan. If _____________ happens, then I will_________________________.
