LEXIA Reading Levels
LEXIA Reading Levels
We would like to see all students reach and complete level 12 by the end of 2nd grade.
This will help them be on track for success!
Your child can work on Lexia as much as they would like to at home. This will only help them become a more successful reader. It is very important no one helps them during their lesson. It is geared to help them master skills at their own pace. If someone is helping or guiding them through the lesson they are not truly mastering skills they need to continue to grow as a fluent reader.
We will be using this information to drive our small group instruction. This will allow us to help your child fill in the gaps needed to fully master the level and move forward in their reading capabilities.
- Here is a chart to show how the Lexia levels move through each of the grade levels.
- It also has the Lexile range under each Lexia level.
- You may find this helpful with choosing books from other places than school for your child to read on their own independent level.
How to log into Lexia
Here are the steps on how to log into Lexia
Your child can work on this as much as they want to as long as it is independently done ( NO HELP)

- Click on the Lexia icon

Fluency (WPM)
The importance of fluency!
- Your child should be reading 111-148 words per minute to be in the 90th percentile for their grade.
- Your child should be reading 84-124 words per minute to be in the 75th percentile for their grade.
- Your child should be reading 50-100 words per minute to be in the 50th percentile for their grade.
- Your child should be reading 36-72 words per minute to be in the 25th percentile for their grade.
- Your child should be reading 23-43 words per minute to be in the 10th percentile for their grade.
To help build and improve your child's fluency level:
- Have them read to you and time them for one minute.
- Have them re-read this over and over, they will see their time improve with more practice.
Words Per Minute (WPM)
How to see how many words per minute your child can read. Have them read a passage and mark or count how many errors they have. Then subtract the errors from the total words read and that will equal their words per minute.
Total words: ____ - errors: ____ = Words correct: ____
ZEARN
- Research has shown that completing 3+ lessons per week leads to 2-3x learning gains- across all levels of student proficiency.
- If your child has not completed their Zearn lesson during class time, it is important they complete it at home that evening for homework.
- Your child may also have foundational lessons assigned to help them practice skills that will help them with their individual needs.

Fry Words
Below are the first 300 Fry Words.
Students should not have to sound these out, they should know them at lightning speed. Please practice these weekly to help your child become a stronger reader and help build their fluency.
Cyclone School Rules
Please be sure to have your child follow all of the school rules daily to allow ultimate academic growth to happen for every student. When teachers and staff have to address behavior concerns it stops learning for your child and the others in the classroom.
Daily Schedule
Our Daily Class Schedule
Please have your child arrive to school by 9:20 and avoid early checkouts unless necessary. Our class is engaged in academic instruction from the time they come in until the time they dismiss. We use every minute possible!
Birthday Treats
We do not celebrate Birthday's in the classrooms. If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school you may purchase snacks from the cafeteria. This will be given to the whole class to have during their lunch time.
