MATHEWS e-News
We are 'All-In' this Together at Mathews!
Ready...Set...Here We GO!
As much as we are looking forward to a little R&R...we are all the more looking forward to August 12 when our students return and we start the 2019-2020 school year!
We will return to campus on Monday, July 15.
There is a great deal of information in this newsletter to assist you regarding the 2019-20 school year. Admittedly, it will take a bit of time to review it all, and for that we apologize. It is a good source of information. Just reference back to it from time to time.
Please be sure to also click the link for Summer Reading! Great lists of books for every age!
We will send an update when we return mid-July to keep you in the know and up-to-date at what is happening at Mathews!
Looking forward to 'Monday'!
SUMMER READING
ENROLLMENT BEGINS THURSDAY, JULY 24
RETURNING STUDENTS FOR 2019-2020:
1. Beginning Wednesday July 24, parents need to log on to the PISD Parent Portal at http://parentportal.pisd.edu. You will need your child’s legal name, campus (Mathews) and 6-digit student ID #. (The ID # is the # they use to buy lunch at school or check library books out with.)
**If you do not have a Parent Portal account, see below for instructions to create a Parent Portal account**
2. After you login, scroll to the blue box that says Student Registration Forms and select the name of your child.
You will notice 2 X’s next to each section that needs updating/changing. Once you have successfully completed each section, a green check mark will appear. The entire process will take about 15 minutes.
· Update your child’s 2019-2020 “Emergency Card”
· Complete the “Registration Forms”
(Truancy Notice, Information Release, PTA/PTSA Consent Form, Food Service, and Electronic Signature tabs)
Below is an example of what your screen will look like once you have completed and signed all the necessary online forms.
Choose Elementary School, then choose Mathews and click UPDATE. All Mathews newsletters are sent electronically. Please make sure you subscribe to the Mathews newsletter to be kept informed of all activities and communication from school administration.
4. The above must be completed by Friday, Aug. 2 to complete class lists for our teachers. On August 8, you will be able to access your child's homeroom teacher assignment.
5. Meet the Teacher for all grades (K-5) will be on Friday, August 9, from 7:30-9:00 am. This is a come and go event.

TRANSPORTATION
ATTENDANCE
Ready to Start the Day...
Our school opens at 7:00 a.m. We have breakfast available that can be purchased from 7:00-7:30.
Students who arrive before 7:30 will either have breakfast in the cafeteria, or sit with their grade level in the gym with adult supervision.
At 7:30 are students are welcomed in the grade level to begin their day.
We recommend and encourage that your child arrive no later than 7:30 each morning. This allows your child time to get to his/her classroom, unpack, sharpen pencils, use the restroom, visit with their teacher and classmates...whatever they might need to do to settle in for the day. Walking in to the classroom after the bell has rung, is not the best way to start the day and is often times awkward for a child.
Each day is an opportunity to learn. Attendance is important. We thank you for teaching your child the importance of being at school by scheduling trips during school breaks and doctors appointments after the school day or during school breaks as well.
When you enroll your child you click that you have reviewed and read the Attendance Truancy Notice.
Below is a link for your review that helps explain the two laws regarding Truancy and Grade Level Advancement in regards to absences and tardies. Please take a moment to review the information below.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Powell.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Save the Date...
For many parents it is helpful to have these dates as far in advance as possible in order to be able to schedule time off work, or reschedule a trip or meeting in order to attend.
Admittedly, we may have additional dates to add later on. But this is a pretty good start!
We will have more dates when we return in July. Promise!
Our theme for the 2019-2020 school year is "All-In". We are looking forward to a great year and hope you will be able to join us for special events.
