Monday Memo
Week of October 14th - October 18th
Greetings, CCE!
This week has flown by! At Gym Night, I was having a conversation with Mrs. Formica about how quickly this 9 weeks and this year is already flying past! We are in the middle of October then in a few weeks we will break for Thanksgiving and then Christmas will knock on our door before we know it!
I don't know about you, but I want time to move a little slower to allow us to get all the things done that we know are important. Continue on the great work that you are doing with students and maximize every minute of your time including planning time & PLC time to promote learning for yourself and for your students.
Our data wall work generated nice discussions for our teams and for our campus. I am including the insight provided by all of our grade levels here. Your grade level leads will be receiving more information about the next steps of moving data on the wall in the near future. District is looking at our data walls across the campuses and, if any adjustments need to be made, we will make them, the key is that we understand that this is a learning process and we focus on the learning as we move through the process together.
CCE, I am amazed and humbled, to be part of such an amazing group of people. You are my family!

Reminders Just for You/Health News Info
When students have an urine/excretory accident, teachers will send the student down to the office to wait on a change of clothing from parents. Teachers will need to make contact with parents either via phone call or text as discreetly as possible. Teachers should plan to contact parents before sending or while students are on their way to the nurse's office. Our school counselor can also help support with the phone call if teacher requests support with this.
The change is new this year and I apologize for the confusion. We also keep clothing (no underwear) in our community closet just in case parent is unable to bring a change of clothing. Our counselor can access that clothing on behalf of students.
Above all our response needs to ensure that our student does not feel embarrassed about the accident, discretion is key!
Launching Us Off!
While at the Read Grant Training, Becky (Read Grant Coach) shared a fun way to incorporate those unused holiday napkins to make writing fun. They are called Napkin Books...check them out here. Model the process first as a mini-lesson, then place the books out at a writing center.
1. Open up Napkin as a book
2. Put paper (cut to fit the napkin size) and staple the edges to make your book.
Here is what would be in the book:
1. Cover page is the Napkin
2. Students create the Title Page & add their names as author
3. Add pages for Beginning, Middle, and End that pertains to the holiday/theme of the napkin. (Model, Model first)
4. Back Page is the back of the napkin
Students should be encouraged to draw one picture and write at least 1 sentence on each page. The books are then placed in your reading area for students to read books. Love it!
Other Reminders....
1. BOY TPRI/TEJAS LEE Window Opens - October 7th- 18th
2. IA Window Opens for 9 Weeks Oct 14-25th
3. Monitor, Monitor, Monitor~ Staying in close proximity to students during lunch and recess is key to deterring misbehavior and/or inappropriate conversations. Actively monitor students by walking around the tables and perusing all areas of the playground. Safety is key!

Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos is observed by many Mexican Families to honor and remember family and friends that have passed. Contrary to popular belief, Dia de Los Muertos is not a Mexican Halloween, it is a time for celebration and remembrance of loved ones. This year, Dia de Los Muertos altars will be observed at our campus beginning on October 28th.
Check out the flyer here that was sent out. Thank you all for working to celebrate our first Dia de Los Muertos!
