AVID Awards Woodbury-Junior High School as a Site of Distinction
Our school is now designated as an AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction. As you may be aware, AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination – is something we implement at our school as a college readiness system where we
- Commit to equity and opportunity for ALL students on a campus
- Promote rigorous academic opportunities for our students
- Deploy highly effective, research-based instructional practices across the school
Whether our students are taking AVID as an elective class, or exposed to and using the skills and tools AVID brings our teachers in core classes, we wanted you to know that our staff is recognized by AVID as a TOP example of work in these important areas.
For more information about AVID, please contact our counseling office or visit www.avid.org.
Recent Black History Month Assembly
Please take a look at this note written by a teacher thanking everyone involved in our recent Black History Month Assembly program:
"I just wanted to say thank you for the incredible assembly. Once again, it was one of the most powerful assemblies of the year. Seeing so many of our students up there (I think there were more than were in the audience) and the pride they took in what they were doing, it was moving and informative and inspirational. I thank you, Ms. Grimes for all of the work you put into organizing and planning it as well as encouraging and supporting the students. Thank you so very much!"
Well said! Anyone can check out the performance on our YouTube channel if interested.
Congratulations to all our talented students and to Ms. Grimes, Mr. Chandler, Ms. Johnston, Mr. Park, Ms. Lewis, Ms. Cook, Ms. Williams, and Ms. Allen for their contributions!
Junior High Character Day
Junior High students have different fun themes for the first Friday of each month. Today was Character Day. Students came dressed as Dr. Who, Scooby Doo's Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, Scoppy, Freddy, Keith from Voltron, Lilo & Stitch, Penny from 'Girl Mans Up', Tiana from 'Princess and the Frog', Veronica from 'Riverdale', Minnie Mouse', Tina from 'Bob's Burgers', and Eleven from 'Stranger Things' among others. They were so creative!
Project Graduation
Project Graduation is a safe and free night of fun for our graduates. It has been a part of Woodbury High School for many years. For the last six years Project Graduation has been held at Rastelli’s Sports & More in Deptford, NJ.
The night of graduation, our graduates return to the high school approximately 9pm. The students and parent volunteer chaperones are bused to the venue. For the next 3-4 hours the graduates enjoy many activities such as a photo booth, basketball, swimming, Gaga Ball, volley ball, Tether ball and a live DJ. Food is provided for all graduates at the venue. In years past, we raised enough funds to give participating graduates a small gift of a Wawa gift card and a Project Graduation t-shirt. At approximately 1:30 am. the students and volunteers are bussed back to the high school.
All costs, including transportation to and from the venue, are covered through fundraising efforts and donations.
The 2018-2019 Project Graduation Committee consists of only 9 parent volunteers. Fundraising has been particularly challenging this year. Our efforts have not raised as much money as we have hoped for at this point. Having so few volunteers makes it difficult to raise the needed funds.
We need your help! It doesn’t matter if your child is in elementary school, 6th, 7th, 8th grade or in the high school. Please join us at our next meeting. If we don’t get more volunteers, we fear there will be no Project Graduation for our graduates this year.

Project Graduation Committee
