Important News for Parents of 5th Grade Students
Last Friday your student brought home an envelope with important health information. The envelope included a letter with information regarding the health requirements for 6th grade, a physical examination form and a dental exam form. The school nurse needs your student’s health records, so that your child can begin 6th grade. Please return completed exams to the elementary school health office before Memorial Day or to the middle school after this date. The physical and immunization requirements MUST be completed and turned in by the first day of school. Please make your appointment now. If you have any questions regarding the health requirements, please feel to contact the Health Office.
The Du Page County Health Department Dental Health Unit will be at Lowell School on Wednesday, March 21. Participation in the program is optional. The State of Illinois requires that all children enrolled in Kindergarten, Second and Sixth Grades have an oral health (dental) examination performed by a licensed dentist. This dental clinic screening/examination would fulfill the requirement for those students who have not already submitted proof of dental examination. If you would like your child to participate, please return the permission form to the Health Office immediately. The Dental Unit staff will only see students with a completed, signed form. If you need a dental form, please contact the Lowell Health Office.
Congratulations to all the participants of the Wellness Challenge. Great job working on healthy habits and nutrition, and being active. Students who completed all four weeks of the Challenge were entered into the drawing with one child selected in each grade level.

Illinois Science Assessment
Students in grade five, grade eight, and high school Biology 1 will take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) again this year. The federal government mandates that all states administer a science assessment to students once during each grade span (elementary, middle school, and high school).
Students will take the test online, and it is designed to be completed in less than an hour.
Our school will administer ISA to 5th grade students on April 25, 2018.
If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your support!

Ask any Lowell student what one of their favorite days of the year at Lowell is.......and they will say Discovery Day!
Discovery Day will take place on Tuesday, June 5th this year and plans are underway! Discovery Day is held during the last week of school and it is an opportunity for our students to grow, stretch, learn, discover, and try activities by introducing them to new and unique learning opportunities. During the morning of Discovery Day, students will participate in three activities. Discovery Day is a collaborative effort made up of parent/family volunteers, teachers, staff and some outside vendors. We need leaders, co-leaders, assistants, and helpers to make this day a success! How can you help now? Start thinking about the following:
- Do you have a hobby, talent or special interest you would like to share with the students?
- Do you have a friend or friends you would like to work with on a fun activity?
- Do you have a relationship with a person or business that might be able to lead an activity?
- Do you want to be part of a really fun morning at Lowell?
Please join us! All are welcome and appreciated! Volunteer sign up sheets will be sent home after spring break but please start thinking about how you might like to help now! If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Razzino @ email@example.com.
We thank you for not double parking on Illinois, in the car line, and in the surrounding neighborhood during arrival and dismissal to keep the children safe. Car riders should remain indoors until they are called; they should not be on the playground. We also thank all families for crossing Illinois Street at the corner. Safety for the children is our top priority!
