How are people changed by their relationships with others?

Why I choose my image

I chose this butterfly image because I think it represents all the characters in my book being transformed. When a caterpillar goes into it cocoon after 30 days it comes out as a butterfly. In that short period of time that caterpillar changed a lot which is what the characters in my book do. that is why I chose my picture.

Personal Connection

My relationships with others has changed me very much. In early elementary I was quiet and shy. Then I met my best friend in 5th grade. She was more outgoing and funny. We hung out a lot and she rubbed off on me. I started becoming more outgoing and less shy. She helped make me into the person I am today.

Why I chose my poem.

I chose the poem Masks by Shel Silverstein. I chose this poem because I thought it represented my question well. i think the masks represents the lies that changes the characters in all my books. The boy and girl passing represents the characters not really know who they are becoming and how much they are actually changing.

Book A: The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

In the book The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne is about a boy named Bruno who moves from a beautiful home in Berlin to a not so beautiful house in a place called “outwith”(Boyne 56). There Bruno meets a new friend Shmuel an eight year old Jewish boy living in a Natiz concentration camp. I think this book relates well to my question because in Bruno and Shmuels relationship they both change majorly. Bruno begins to love the stripped pajama prisoners even though he is not supposed to, he begins to love outwith. Bruno begins to lie more and begins to question his dad and his work" Father was generally a kind and thoughtful man, it hardly seemed fair or right that no one had stopped Lieutenant Kotler for getting so mad at Pavel" (Boyne 79).

Book B: Compound

The book Compound by S.A Bodeen has many relationship changes throughout it. This book is about a family who has a rich dad and they are living in a compound because of a nuclear bomb. It addresses my question well by showing many changes Eddy has with all his family members. Eddy’s relationship with his dad changes the most. In the book his dad lies about almost everything. He lies about the internet and it not being connected “ Wireless Network Now Connected” (Bodeen 145). He lies about the bombing and everything from food to family. His dad lied about all of this to “ See if we could do it, if our family really has what it takes to survive” (Bodeen 167). Eddy ends up losing his trust with his dad and becomes paranoid about getting out of the Compound.

Book C: Everything, Everything

The book Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is about a girl who is allergic to everything. Since she is allergic to everything she has stayed inside for as long as she can remember. One day a boy moves next door his name is Olly. Maddy (the main character) ends up falling in love with Olly. I think this book represents my question well because Maddy changes a lot throughout the story. After meeting Olly, Maddy becomes a whole new person. She becomes more rebellious “I need to escape, just for a little while” (Yoon 187) and wants to know more about the outside world. She starts keeping secrets from her mom. But soon she realizes that her mom has her own secrets to keep.

Real world example

For my real world example I chose to do the relationship between Julia Roberts and Danny Moder. I am sure everyone has heard of the actor and producer Julia Roberts but no one has heard of Danny Moder. When Julia got married to Danny he instantly became famous because of their relationship. I think this represents my question well because if it wasn't for being in a relationship with Julia, Danny would still be a nobody.
