Spell Bowl Team Update
Physical Education
The new version of FitnessGram has the capability to email the fitness reports home to parents instead of printing them off for each student. The reports will have your son or daughter's fitness testing results, The results of this test are not part of your son or daughters Physical Education grade, The reports are used simply to inform you/them of their fitness levels as it relates to the FitnessGram Test. Mr. Bratton and Mr. Simms plan on trying to send these reports via e-mail before Thanksgiving break. If you do not get an e-mail by then, please contact Mr. Simms (dsimms@hse.k12.in.us).

Have a collection you would like to share?
FCI Collection Case
The Collection Case at FCI is a fun way for students, families, and staff to share their personal collections with everyone at FCI. The Collection Case, located in the main hallway between the Nurses's Office and the Cafeteria, is highly visible and students love to look at the case and see the collections that have been displayed. Any school-appropriate collection would be great for the Collection Case. Last year, some of the items/collections that students and families shared were: Legos, soccer jerseys from around the world, M&M wrappers from around the world, a large hornet's nest, memorabilia from foreign countries, rocks and minerals, Pokemon cards, and WWII-related items.
If you would like to share a collection with the students and staff at FCI, please fill out the attached Collection Case Form and return it to school marked "Attn: PTO Collection Case." Contact Charron Wright at gcwright91@aol.com with any questions about the Collection Case

Head Lice Information
Head Lice are a common problem, and at any given time of the school year, there are a few known cases throughout our buildings.
The signs and symptoms of head lice are itching, especially of the scalp as well as white nits, or eggs, of the louse insect, attached to the hair shaft most frequently at the nap of the neck and behind the ears. The eggs cement to the hair shaft close to the scalp.
A shampoo treatment with an insecticide shampoo will generally kill most head lice. A second treatment is necessary ten days later with some brands. Manual nit removal and environmental cleanup of the house by parent is key to successful head lice treatment, We strongly encourage parents to communicate that his or her child has had head lice to any close contacts that may have recently been exposed after being at your home (i.e.- a sleep over or slumber party).
While head lice are a nuisance, they do not spread disease. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school nurses attention, the nurse will maintain confidentiality to the student’s identity, verify the presence of an active infestation, and bring it to the attention of the child’s parent/guardian. HSE nurses will assist staff and parents with educational material, notify the child’s parents of confirmed case, reassess a student with a confirmed case to monitor the effectiveness of treatment, and refer to a health care provider as needed.
Students should not be excluded from school for having nits, as the management of this condition should not disrupt the educational process of the child. The need to exclude from school will be determined on a case-by-case basis. This protocol is supported by the National Pediculosis Association, The American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Association of School Nurse. Please contact your school nurse if further information or resources are needed.

Keeping Focused
In an effort to keep instructional time as free from distraction as possible, students have been reminded of the following:
- Absolutely NO texting/personal emailing during the school day (7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.) to students OR parents via any type of program/app/etc. Consequences will be given should this occur.
- If students receive texts/emails during the school day, they should immediately notify their teacher or staff member.
- We realize there may need to be communication between students working collaboratively during the school day. However, it should only be done at teacher direction/approval.
- Texting/emailing that does occur outside of school is a parental approval issue. However, if content of texting/emailing outside of school negatively impacts/affects the school environment, there may be consequences that are imposed at school.
As always, if you need to get a message that is a change for your child, please call the office at 915-4220. All other situations should be resolved outside the school day.
