Message from the Principal's Office
I hope you are all staying safe, healthy, and strong as you continue to make the best of our Safer-at-Home situation and subsequent virtual learning.
I'll keep my opening message short, as this issue of the CHS Cougar News is a lengthy one - chock-full of very important information regarding cancellations, a revised end-of-year timeline, and a new grading and reporting policy during COVID-19. I urge you to read on, making sure to click on any links for additional information.
As always please don't hesitate to reach out for anything you may need.
Go Cougars!
Mrs. Franz
Badger Bounce Back Plan, Safer at Home Clarification & Event Cancellations
Safer at Home Clarification: The Governor’s General Counsel has defined the end of the 2019-2020 school year as June 30, 2020. – the statutorily determined end of the school year. This means that school buildings and associated grounds are closed to students for instructional and extracurricular activities through that date. It is possible that an additional order may extend that time out even further.
Implications for Previously Scheduled Events at CHS: As a result of this information, the following events originally scheduled for Spring, 2020 will be canceled:
- Evening with the Arts
- Prom
- Scholarship & Awards Night
- Spring Sports Season
We realize that the cancellation of the above events will be highly disappointing to our students and to families. We certainly share these same sentiments on our end, and are so very sorry that we will not be able to enjoy many of the same traditions that we are used to. Moving forward, our staff will be focusing our efforts on honoring and supporting our seniors in their final days at CHS. As of right now, graduation is still scheduled for May 31st. Additional information regarding the structure of graduation will be forthcoming.
Virtual Learning Updates - IMPORTANT!
Revised "End of Year" Timeline
The purpose of the revised end-of-year timeline is to allow students time to "catch up" on past due coursework from SEM II. Teachers will remain readily available to work with students virtually through the last day of school on June 9th, with the goal of ALL students successfully completing course outcomes.
In addition, non-required enrichment opportunities will be made available to all students from May 26th to June 9th. Specifics regarding our plan for the delivery of non-required enrichment will be forthcoming.
Teachers of dual credit classes will be in touch soon with students and families regarding end-of-year plans for their specific classes.
Pass/No Pass Grading Option
(1) Preserves credit attainment for students;
(2) Makes adjustments to graduation requirements unnecessary at this time; and
(3) Eases stress on families and students in adjusting to the novelty of a virtual learning
format.

Athletics Update
Message from the AD's Office
Rock Valley Conference schools have unanimously decided to not support the WIAA’s decision to allow a spring sport “season” during the month of July. It was also determined that RVC schools will not sponsor any Rock Valley organized events until further notice.
We have put together this memory reel in support of our athletes, who will not be able to participate in Spring athletics. Special thanks to Mrs. Julie Barker for her work in putting this together.

The Spanish class would like to give a shout out to Marina Arteaga. Marina has demonstrated outstanding leadership during the school year and she continues maintaining a clear sense of purpose and responsible work ethic in her Spanish 5 class. During the cultural based virtual classes (Cassettes del Exilio) for the past few weeks, Marina has demonstrated outstanding participation and an eagerness for learning. Great job, Marina!

Teacher Appreciation Week
Message from Mrs. Gile, Director of Academics & Innovation
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4th-8th this year and I’d like to promote an opportunity for students and families to create appreciation cards for teachers (or other school staff members).
Over the years I have had many opportunities to hear from many students, parents, guardians, and alumni about the impact that a teacher or staff member had on them or their child. Oftentimes educators get caught up in the planning, grading, teaching, quickly switching to alternative learning, etc. and don’t take the time to step back and see all the good they are doing. This one week a year is not enough, but it is a wonderful time to show our Clinton Community School District teachers and staff how they may have positively affected your life or the lives of your children.
I have done this for the past three years for the high school staff and we got wonderful responses AND school staff were very appreciative. While there are a plethora of ways to say thank you, this year I'm promoting two different ways to show appreciation for the staff at CCSD (retired or current).
Option 1-Blank Appreciation Card:: You can complete an appreciation card completely on your own. It is a google form where parents, guardians, students, etc. can write your own personal message to any school staff member (not just teachers).
Option 2--Template Appreciation Card: You can complete a pre-filled template appreciation card. It is a google form where parents, guardians, students, etc. can write a note for a school staff member telling him or her how much you appreciate what he or she has done for you and/or your children.
The school staff will receive these notes of appreciation during Teacher Appreciation Week. Please feel free to share these links out with others and encourage individuals to complete one or more cards of appreciation for school staff!!

Students will have until September 30, 2020 to complete the revised minimum requirements.
Internship students who are currently unable to work and have not met the required 90 hours of work will work with Mrs. Benisch to discuss options and come up with an alternative hour plan.
Junior Options
Complete alternative task assigned by Mrs. Benisch to reach the 90 hours
Take an Incomplete at the end of the semester until you are able to work the full 90 hours (over the Summer)
Senior Options
Complete alternative task assigned by Mrs. Benisch to reach the 90 hours
If the student does not need the Internship credit for graduation, he or she may drop the course
All students, whether working or not, should continue to participate and complete curriculum items delivered in GoogleClassroom. Specific assigned work for students will be shared via Google Classroom every other Wednesday, starting April 1. Opposite weeks Mrs. Benisch will be meeting with small groups of students virtually based on pathways--watch for a GoogleHangout.
