Principal's Message

Dear KE Cub Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you rejuvenated from our mid-winter break. Thank you to the families who joined us for the Title 1 Informational Session for grades 3-5 on SBA/iReady and Report Cards last month. We appreciate your participation and engagement. Thank you to those that attended and provided insight to a program you’d like to have back (RA-Z Kids) and asked questions about the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). Parents of Cubs in grades 3-5 will be pleased to know that you are able to access the SBA results via ParentVue under the “Document” tab. Please contact our main office should you need guidance on how to access these reports.

This month we have another Title I Sponsored event especially designed for our Pre K-2nd grade Cub families. Join us next week, March 7, from 5-6:45 p.m. Pizza will be served and child care will be provided till 6:45 p.m. The PTA general meeting will be held in the library beginning at 7 p.m. Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages the YMCA will not have child care coverages beyond 6:45 p.m.

In other exciting news, our School Board approved Lease Crutcher Lewis and Mithūn to be our Kenmore Elementary’s project Design-Builder for our modernization. These firms are dedicated to their communities, working collaboratively to design and build spaces that reflect the culture and vision of the people they serve. Lease Crutcher Lewis’ previous experience includes Peter Kirk Elementary (Lake Washington School District), Margaret Mead Elementary (Lake Washington SD), and Garfield High School (Seattle Public Schools). Mithun’s architectural and interior design experience includes Blakely Elementary School, Bush School, Annie Wright Schools, and Islandwood.

Planning and Design Administrator, Ha Yang, is the project manager for our project. Together, we have formed our School Design Advisory Team (SDAT) and meetings are slated to begin soon. If you are not part of the SDAT team, be sure to note the upcoming community events that will take place via Zoom and in-person to ask questions and share your thoughts/ideas about the modernization.

Meet the amazing Design-Build team on:

Monday, March 20th - via Zoom https://nsd.zoom.us/j/86781926202

Tuesday, March 21(in-person)- Kenmore Elementary Gym from 6-7 p.m.

Finally, be sure to note the many events listed below, in addition to our Kindergarten tours, Pre K-2 Information Session, community events for the modernization, the PTA will be hosting its annual auction event next week (3/11) and STEAM Fair & Art Walk (3/28) later this month.

We welcome another busy month at Kenmore Elementary and hope to see you at one of our school or PTA sponsored events!
