About Rick Walker
Rick Walker is a 14 year old who grew up with his grandma until she died and in foster homes until he was placed in Blue Canyon, a youth detention center. Rick enjoys working out and reading. Rick escaped Blue Canyon one night and wound up in Canyonlands National Park in Utah with a man that he grew close to through their shared passion for hang gliding and condors.
How Condors are important to the protagonist, Rick
Condors are such an important piece of nature to Rick because while he was living with Lon he grew close to the Condors and learned to show appreciation for the birds.On page 143 it mentions how one of the Condors die and how Lon and Rick react to the Condor named
Maverick dying which is why the Condors are such an important piece of nature to Rick because Rick learned how to care for them and express feelings for them.

The Condors influence Rick’s life by changing Rick’s perspective on life and making Rick more mature. At the end of the book Rick mentions that he always felt like he was trapped in a maze and after his experience with the Condors Rick stated that he felt like he escaped the maze.
