News and Updates

Hello Orenco Families! We have completed 3 weeks of Comprehensive Distance Learning. I hope the experience, so far, has been good and you are getting the support you need. It looks like our students are most excited about seeing their friends and connecting with their teachers. Please continue to reach out if you have questions or concerns that we can help with.

In service to you,

Allison Combs, Principal

No School Dates!

We have a short week for instruction: Oct 5-Oct 7th.

There is NO School on Thursday, October 8th for Staff Development/Work Day and NO School on Friday, October 9th as a Teacher Non-contract day.

Self-Serve Materials Pick-up

If you have an item to drop-off, there will a bin available each day from 12pm to 6 pm. Items can be dropped here like books, broken chromebooks, etc. It is helpful if you include a note with a name on it. We ask that if you have papers with identifying information, then call and we can arrange a pick-up with you.

Your teacher may have arranged a pick-up, too. Carts will roll out between 12 pm-6 pm daily if there are items to pick up. Walk to the South entrance--by the play structure and cafeteria entrance doors, not Birch Ave.

Free meals for all students

HSD is providing free meals to all students, Mondays through Fridays, when school is in session, through at least December 2020. Meals are being delivered via bus routes (check http://www.hsd.k12.or.us/mybus for stop locations and times). They are also available in a drive-through/walk-up between 11:45 am to 12:45 pm at six schools: Century High, Brown Middle, Evergreen Middle, Poynter Middle, South Meadows Middle, and Lincoln St Elementary. Any student or parent can go to any bus stop or hub location to get food.

W.L. Henry Elementary Food Pantry: The food pantry at W.L. Henry Elementary School (1060 SE 24th Ave., Hillsboro) is open to all HSD families every other Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Upcoming dates are 10/6 and 10/20.

If you would like to donate to W.L. Henry’s food pantry, please contact Emma Villaraldo or Yesenia Carmolinga (or call and leave a message at 503-844-1690) to arrange a drop-off of cash, a check made payable to W.L. Henry Food Pantry, or packaged food items such as beans, rice, and eggs.

Five Oaks Museum:

If you are looking for a safe and easy local getaway: Visit the Tigard Outdoor Museum!

Enjoy a socially-distant family stroll or field trip to the Tigard Outdoor Museum!

Five Oaks Museum contributed the research, writing, and images for the six interpretive history displays along the 3/4 mile long trail connecting Tigard’s main street to nearby commercial spaces and parks. Start your visit in the plaza adjacent to Symposium Coffee at 12345 SW Main Street, Tigard, OR and walk west along the 3/4 mile long railside trail.

The six profiles of community members demonstrate the neighborliness and courage to take action at the core of Tigard’s identity. They also illustrate major historic events and shifts that shaped the region through stories of human experience.

Special contribution

Thank you so much to our friends and neighbors at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Washington County on Birch St. They held a special contribution and collected, at last count, $860 for student school supplies and needed materials. Tremendous thanks to this community partner!

Orenco will participate in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) until November 5th at the earliest. November 5th is the end of the 1st quarter of school. HSD leaders will begin to view our metrics in mid-October based on the Governor's guidance and the Oregon Department of Education for next steps, if possible. Students can continue with CDL, even if our building reopens for in-person education.
