Be Yourself! Everyone else is taken

Analysis and Development of Theme
The characters in this book are Freak and Max. Max is 7 feet tall and has a condition called Learning Disorder (LD). Freak on the other hand, is 2 and a half feet tall and very very intelligent. These two best friends are complete opposites, but opposites attract right?
The mini-theme "Be Yourself" is very obvious and important to the book. Freak doesn't let anyone that judges him get him mad or sorrowful and Max does the same thing. They both can control it. Some evidence from the book is something Freak says to Max: "More speed, o mighty beast!". Even though Freak calls him a beast it doesn't make him angry.
Reflection and Application of Theme
Visual Interpretation of Theme
A symbol of "Be Yourself" can be represented with a piece of clothing. In the world today, people judge you the way you dress or look. So it is a good representation of the theme.
Freak the Mighty is a group of two, Max and Freak. Both of them can relate to the theme. They both have been called nicknames in their lives, but it doesn't bother them.
Many times in the book, Freak calls Max a beast. One of the times is when they are watching the fireworks. It doesn't bother him very much. He just chooses to be himself. And Freaks actual name is Kevin. So he calls himself a freak, but he thinks it's cool!
