Dear Families, listed below are the skills and events for this week. Week of May 18 - May 22
Reader's Workshop
Throughout the year the students have been providing oral retells of stories. However, we will start to write written summaries of various stories. Summarizing is telling the most important parts of the text in your own words. we are going to follow the Somebody - Wanted - But - So - Then structure of summarizing. Our mentor texts this week will be Pigeon needs a Bath by Mo Williams, My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza, Bed Head by Margie Palatini, Porcupining: A Prickly Love Story by Lisa Wheeler, and Splat the Cat Rob Scotton.

Writer's Workshop
This week we will be writing our summaries into a paragraph utilizing our summary graphic organizers. We will also be writing letters to the current second graders asking what second grade is like.
FUNdations
We will begin Unit 12. Unit 11 focuses on words that have more than one syllable such as magnet, and napkin other words will be compound words for example sunfish, cowboy, and butterfly. Please look for the Unit 12 parent resource in your student's folder. The homework guide is included in the packet.
