Thank You for 24 Years of Service - Selectman John I. Lebeaux

April 26, 2022 was Selectman John I. Lebeaux's last meeting after serving the Town on the Board for 24 years. He was elected for the first time to the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen in 1998, serving the Town and on the Board for 8 terms.


Mr. Lebeaux began his service to the Town at a young age when he was elected to representative Town Meeting at 18 years old. During his career he served on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Shrewsbury (prior to being elected as a Selectman), nine years as a member of the Massachusetts Board of Food and Agriculture representing the interests of agriculture to the Department, and providing input on policy development and budgetary decisions. He also served for 9 years as a public member of the Massachusetts Water Resources Commission.


From 2009 to 2015 he served as the Town Administrator of the Town of Princeton and was recently appointed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack as one of 12 new members to serve on the newly established Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production Federal Advisory Committee (UAIP-FAC) for Urban Farming.


Selectmen Lebeaux is the Current Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, he was sworn into this position February 6, 2015.


Mr. Lebeaux will be remembered as a stabilizing force on the Board of Selectmen, always listening and doing what he thought was best for the whole Town.


The brief ceremony recognizing Selectman Lebeaux's service begins HERE in the recording of the April 26, 2022 meeting. Senator Michael Moore was in attendance to honor Selectman Lebeaux and present him with a proclamation. James "Jim" Kane was in attendance on behalf of Representative Hannah Kane and presented Selectmen Lebeaux with a proclamation. Former Selectmen Henry Fitzgerald and James "Jim" Kane also gave remarks celebrating Selectmen Lebeaux.

2022 Annual Town Meeting Information

The 2022 Annual Town Meeting will be held at the Oak Middle School Auditorium, 45 Oak Street, on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 8:30 am.


The warrant for the May 21, 2022 Annual Town Meeting can be found HERE.


On Thursday, April 14, 2022, and Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 6:00 pm in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, the Finance Committee held public hearings on the articles contained in the warrant and will make recommendations to Town Meeting.


On Tuesday, April 26, 2022 the Board of Selectmen made recommendations on a majority of the articles contained within the warrant.


On Thursday, May 19, 2022 Pre-Town Meeting will be held at 6:00 PM in the Oak Middle School Auditorium.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

Effective Friday, February 18, 2022, the Town no longer requires face coverings to be worn inside of Town Hall. The Town of Shrewsbury will adhere to the Massachusetts Department of Health’s (MDPH) ongoing Mask Advisory that encourages (but does not require) all residents, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask or face covering in an indoor setting outside of their home.

The Board of Selectmen acts as the Town's Chief Executive Body responsible for the community's general welfare following guidelines set forth in Operational Policies for the Board of Selectmen. Specific powers and responsibilities of the Board of Selectmen are set forth in Chapter 559 of the Acts of 1953 which is better known as the Town Manager Act and the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
