Ten Pillars of Effective Instruction: Literacy Credits

Ten Pillars Teacher Cohort#3 Forming: July 25-28, 2016

Schools are invited to form a 3-4 teacher team to attend the training for Cohort#3. Sessions are scheduled for July 25-28, 2016, meeting each day from 8:00-12:30. Pre-reading and writing will be required for 2.0 CEUs in Literacy. Teachers grades 6-12 in all contents are encouraged to get a team together at your school.

Introduction to The Ten Pillars of Effective Instruction: June and August 2016

A workshop introducing the OCS Ten Pillars of Effective Instruction Framework will be offered in two session during the end-of-year teacher workdays in June, 2016 and then once in August. Session 1: June 8-9; Session 2: June 13-14; Session 3: August 16-17. All sessions will meet from 8:00- 1:00 each day. Attendees will earn 1.0 CEU literacy credit. Teachers grades 6-12 in all contents are encouraged to attend.

Focus on Pillar IV: Disciplinary Literacy Instruction: July 18-19, 2016

In-depth study on how to provide explicit instruction and support for disciplinary Literacy Instruction in all disciplines and contents. Sessions are scheduled for 8-12:30 on days. Pre-reading and writing will be required to earn 1.0 CEU in Literacy. Teachers grades 6-12 in all contents may attend, but completion of the Introduction to the Ten Pillars, or being a member of a Literacy Cohort is a pre-requisite for this course.

Complex Texts - The Key to Adolescent Literacy: August 10-11, 2016

How does learning through conceptual units based on complex text sets support adolescent literacy skills and content learning? Participants will apply their understandings from the Introduction to Ten Pillars of Effective Instruction to methods of planning instruction and choosing text sets for conceptual units in their contents. Modeling and research will address the needs of the adolescent learner in the active-learning classrooms of the 21st Century. 1.0 CEU in Literacy.
