CHARGER CHRONICLES

April 30, 2021

“Look upon yourself as a tree planted beside the water, which bears its fruit in due season; the more it is shaken by the wind, the deeper it strikes its roots into the ground.” -- Margaret Mary Alacoque

YES, WE ARE ALL TIRED OF MASKING, BUT ....

Our governor sent out a statement that the mandate is still in effect for K through 12 schools. Dr. RaeNell Houston, Superintendent of New Orleans Catholic Schools, has respectfully asked that we comply with the governor's mask mandate. This applies to all faculty, staff, and students during all parts of the school day and events. So we must still follow our mask protocols at SMM. Hang in there and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

A MESSAGE FROM MR. COLLINS

Dear parents,
I have something for you to consider— if possible, please take away your child’s cell phone. During my time as an administrator, I have only seen harm come from them. It is even worse in the elementary school. When our children use them to speak poorly of another, those words can be viewed over and over again, this deeply affects our kids. Often times, our children are faced with being insulted, teased, and even bullied. In many cases, the kids don’t say anything to their parents.

But we CAN put a stop to it by using parent controls to only allow our children’s cell phones to communicate with parent approved numbers. Each phone is different but you can put parent controls on most phones.
Want to verify the damaging affect cell phones are having on out kids, try taking the phone away from your child for a week, a day, heck, even an hour. They act as though you are taking away their oxygen. They feel they cannot live without the phone.

Let’s keep our kids away from the damage these phones can cause as long as we can. Let them be kids, let them grow and mature. Their youth lasts just a short time and we should make it last as long as possible.

Christopher Collins, M.Ed.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM FR. ED

ADULT CONFIRMATION

The sacrament of Confirmation is the formal sacrament of completing the three Sacraments of Initiation begun at baptism. For parents who are baptized Catholics not yet confirmed, being a confirmed Catholic adult is a sign of maturity in the practice of the Faith and a great way of modeling full participation in the life of the Church.

At this time we invite baptized Catholics to consider ‘signing up’ for receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

Please call the church office to discuss the possibility of receiving the sacrament of Confirmation in the near future. 985-643-6124

ROR Book Drive

A message from Emma Dorion's Mom:

Emma went through the donated books & the SMM community never fails to give big. 403 books were donated & 276 were appropriate to donate to ROR! She still has donations coming in. She is working to locate another program to donate the rest of the books, as some were for older readers.

Thank you so much for allowing her this opportunity; she is truly blessed to be a part of SMM! We are contacting Daughters of Charity Monday to arrange drop off & will send an update to the school.

Thank you,
Jennifer Dorion

Would you like to recognize your children for their success in school this year? Place a congratulatory ad for his/her promotion? Would you like to advertise your business in a place where over 500 parents can see it?

It’s easy to create a recognition ad. Just send us a copy of your favorite photo and compose your message. While you’re thinking of what your ad will look like, also think about the size of the ad space. Select a horizontal or vertical format in a variety of sizes and costs. Take a look at the examples in our brochure. You can do the same thing for a business ad.

Please click on this link for information about placing ads our yearbook this year. https://yearbookavenue.jostens.com/sell/ad/offers.html

You design your own ad, but it must be in good taste and appropriate for a Catholic elementary school. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Gay in the school office.

Please Pray for Our Priests

In addition to our requests for prayers for our SMM families and community, we request that you pray for individual priests in our Archdiocese. Our priests need our prayers as much as we need theirs.

Here is a brief prayer that you may want to use:

Eternal Father, we lift up to you these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness and holiness of your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing tp you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
