Math
Students have begun learning how to add 2 digit numbers. At this time, the only strategy being taught is called "regrouping". This strategy allows students to understand more about place value, making groups of ten and will assist them later when they move to "carrying".
Attached is a very helpful youtube video demonstrating how this works:
Writing
Students are learning to be effective writing partners by listening to each others' stories and then giving positive feedback about how to improve the story. They are writing many lines across many pages and building stories that readers can understand and enjoy.
Reading
During our mini-lessons, we discussed the setting, characters, problems and solutions of several stories. Students then read their own stories and identified and discussed the same things.
MAP Testing
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing took place this week. Students took their first tests in Math and Literacy on Tuesday and Wednesday. As this is their first time, the reports will indicate scores and how they relate each other, but WON'T show any progress until the next time they take the MAP test.
I hope to have the reports next week to send home to you.
