Final Exam Schedule
Because our students have asked for more time to prepare for exams and to not have four exams on one day, we have created a new schedule that will be implemented this year. ALL students will finish class on Thursday and Friday at 11am and will be dismissed from BHS at this time. Students driving, walking, or riding with a peer/guardian can leave directly at the 11am dismissal, and students riding a bus home will head to their bus at dismissal. Students will have the option of grabbing lunch in the main building cafe prior to leaving. The week of finals will have teacher "Office Hours" available for student support, so please reach out to a specific teacher if your student would to schedule a time.

Mrs. Mayo received news that the Center for Leadership Development is looking for candidates for their January session, and they would LOVE to have some of Brownsburg’s best African American/Minority Students come their way. The mission of the Center for Leadership Development is to foster the advancement of minority youth in Central Indiana as future professional, business and community leaders by providing experiences that encourage personal development and educational attainment.
If you think this would be a good fit for your sons/daughters, please contact Joshua Webb, Self-Discovery/Career Exploration Coordinator at jwebb@cldinc.org. You can visit their website for additional information and registration materials as well.

Immunizations for Senior Year
Student Health – Immunization Requirements
Despite just having started our junior year, we cannot ignore that senior season is around the corner. If your junior is schedule to have a physical in the next few months, please discuss with your physician the timing of these required immunizations. Some insurances will not cover two physicals within twelve-month time span, and so you may need to get your student caught up on these shots now. Beginning in 2014, all students are required to update their vaccinations for grade 12.
Requirements are:
●Hepatitis A (2 doses) now required for grades 4, 6 and 12
●HPV has been added as a recommendation for grades 6-12
●Annual influenza has been added as a recommendation for all ages.
●Meningococcal MCV4 second dose is still a requirement for grade 12.
(Please note: Meningococcal Serogroup B (MenB) has remained a recommendation for grade 12.)
Please do not hesitate to contact our Clinic staff with any questions or concerns. They can be reached at (317) 852-2258 Ext. 1503 or by emailing relam@brownsburg.k12.in.us or mcarrel@brownsburg.k12.in.us
Vaping / Juuling On Campus
We are seeing an unfortunate upswing in the use of vaping/e-cigarette devices on campus with our students. Often called "Juuling" (after the most popular brand of vape), these devices can appear harmless, but do serious damage.
A Juul is a small vaporizer that looks like a USB flash drive. The device heats a nicotine juice up to create a vapor which is then inhaled by the user. These devices have become very popular with teens. They are discreet, and the cloud that they produce can be hidden by a shirt sleeve. The vapor smells sweet and fruity. Some popular scents include, creme brûlée, mango, fruit medley and cucumber, which can be appealing to teens.
It's very important to know that each Juul pod contains as much nicotine as 1 pack of cigarettes or the equivalent of 200 puffs. Some teenagers have figured out ways to double the nicotine or replace the juice with some other substance such as marijuana.
Nicotine as we know is very addictive. At first the person may feel a high when using it, but over time that wears off. The person is then left with the need to continue consuming it, not for the high but because of the craving. Use of nicotine has been shown to cause long-term affects with concentration, memory and the ability to learn. Now imagine these affects on a brain that is still developing. Consumption of e-cigarette products have also shows a higher rate of bronchitis, increased coughing and respiratory issues. Not only are these devices dangerous to your health, but they are also illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess.
