Athletics
Documentation:
If your child is interested in trying out for a winter sport (boys or girls basketball, wrestling, girls volleyball, or boys soccer), please create or verify your Planet HS account to make sure all documentation is up to date. This must be completed and approved by Mr. Willms in order for your child to play.
Wrestling:
Wrestling practice starts Monday, November 1st. Coach Robins will have practice Monday-Friday from 3:00-5:30pm. Wrestlers should have the following for practice each day.
1. Athletic shorts with appropriate undergarment (compression shorts work well).
2. Short sleeve athletic shirt.
3. Running shoes or wrestling shoes.
4. If you have your own headgear, great!, but not necessary.
5. Water and a light snack.
The first match is scheduled for Wednesday, 11/17 @ West Pine Middle versus New Century starting at 4pm.
Basketball:
Coach Simpson and Coach Eury will host another optional open gym for any students who are seriously considering trying out for basketball this week. The open gym's purpose is to provide conditioning for the upcoming tryouts next week. These will take place on Monday, 11/1 (boys only) and Thursday, 11/4 (girls only). Students will need to be picked up by 5:00pm. Please have your child bring a change of clothes, sneakers, a water bottle, and a snack. Your child must have his/her Planet HS account active and approved to join the open gym sessions.
The cutoff for signing up for tryouts is Monday, 11/1. Tryouts will be after school on 11/8, 11/9, and 11/10. Students will need to have the following for tryouts: water bottle and athletic shoes (no high tops please). The first game is scheduled for Monday, 11/22 @ Crain's Creek Middle School starting at 4pm.
Football:
The final football game of the season will be hosted @ New Century Middle School on Wednesday, 11/3. Start time is 4:00pm. Coach Garner, Coach Marsh, Coach Bright and Stephen, thank you for your leadership and contributions to WPM student athletes as we close out another great football season!
Golf:
Congratulations to our golf team for going undefeated this season and winning the conference! Coach Cowell, thank you for your contributions to WPM student athletes.
Cross Country:
Congratulations to our Cross Country teams for a phenomenal season and winning the girls and boys conference championships! You all put in a lot of training and dedication this season. Coach West and Coach Gilbertson, thank you for all your efforts this season and supporting WPM student athletes.
Theater Update (from Mr. Wright)
Auditions for Into the Woods, Jr. start Monday, November 1. Students who plan on auditioning should have signed up for an audition time block already. Students should see Mr. Wright first thing Monday if they do not know their audition time. All performers and backstage crew must sign and turn in the Audition Packet. Callbacks will be on Wednesday from 3:00pm-5:30pm. The cast list will be posted on Saturday, November 6.
- Final grades will be viewable in PowerSchool. If you would like a paper copy, they will be available November 2nd between 9:30am-4pm at the front desk. Conference requests can be made through your child's homeroom teacher for that day. Students not stopping by on November 2nd will receive their paper copy of the report card on Wednesday, November 3rd.

Child Nutrition Update
School meals are provided to all students free of charge this year. However, it is still important that families who qualify for this benefit complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. This application has benefits beyond school meals, such as discounted fees on academic tests and exams, college applications, increased school funding to support all students and more. To have an application mailed to you, call the Child Nutrition Office at (910) 947-2342 or email cndirector@ncmcs.org.
Connect Virtual Academy for 2nd Semester
The Connect! Virtual Academy enrollment application for the second semester will be available beginning Monday, November 1 through Friday, November 19. As a reminder, enrolling in Connect! is a commitment for the rest of the school year. Instructions on how to apply can be found at ncmcs.org/announcements. School Information
Not Feeling Well...
- Students who are not feeling well are asked to stay home. Staying home when sick is essential to keeping infections out of school and preventing spread to others.
Cell Phones
- Students are reminded each morning during announcements to turn off their cell phones and place them in their book bags. If there is an emergency and your child needs to contact you, he/she is allowed to come to the office to call. Same goes for you. Please call the office and we will be sure to get the message to your child.
Reminders for afternoon dismissal
- School dismisses at 3pm. 6th graders are picked up at the front of the school. 7th graders are picked up by the baseball field (enter at West Pine Elementary School). 8th graders are picked up in the back parking lot (staff parking area). Please note: once the 8th grade afternoon carline is at capacity, those cars will be asked to remain in the regular line until a staff member directs them to the back of the school.
- 8th grade cars are asked to use their right turn signal to alert the staff member on duty directing traffic that you are turning right.
- 6th/8th carline: All cars are asked to stay close to the curb in the bend near the split in the road so that the 8th grade cars have enough clearance to exit safely.
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving after 8am must sign in at the front office. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the front door and ring bell for assistance.
Early Dismissals
- We understand that doctor/dental appointments and other appointments cannot be avoided. However, in order to protect the instructional time and limit class disruptions, no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:30pm. Students will not be called out of class early until the parent/guardian arrives to school. Any changes to your child's afternoon ride home must be shared with our office staff prior to 2:30pm.
Instructional Fees
- School fees are $40 (technology and instructional). There may be additional fees for encore classes. Those fees can be paid online, or your child can bring in to school and one of our staff members will receipt. Families may submit a request for waiver or reduction of fees form if they feel they cannot afford to pay these fees. This form is available through our bookkeeper, Ms. Campos.
Face Coverings
- Students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in the building. No face coverings are required while outside. The BOE will revisit this decision at the 10/4 board work session. Face coverings must be worn from the top of the nose to the chin.
Student Medication
- All medication, prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs that parents want given at school must have a physician order accompanying the medication to school. The Request for Medication Administration in School Form (Spanish) must be filled out in its entirety, on one sheet of paper with the front page being the physician order, and the back, the parent authorization. Medication of any type must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original container with the Request form Medication Administration at School completed by the physician and the parent/guardian.
