5th Gr M-STEP - April 20th and 22nd

All 5th grade students will take the M-STEP this week. ELA will be taken on Tuesday, April 20, and Math will be taken on Thursday, April 22. Testing will begin after their morning specials classes and most will be completed before lunch. For those students who need a little extra time, they will finish their testing after lunch and/or the day after each testing day.

Please have your student bring earbuds or headphones to school on testing days. All students got a pair of earbuds in their At-Home Learning Kits in March!

M-STEP Testing

The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) is a standardized, online assessment that is administered to students once a year throughout the state of Michigan. All students in 3rd through 8th grade takes tests in Math and English Language Arts. Students in 5th and 8th grade also take assessments in Science and Social Studies.

We all want your child’s state assessment experience to be as relaxed and stress-free as possible. Your positive outlook and supportive manner going into these assessments also will influence your child’s experience. You can help your child by ensuring that s/he is well-rested on testing day. Students need to arrive on time to school by 8:15am everyday, but especially on testing days.

Please avoid scheduling appointments or planned absences during testing times. Testing will be taking place from approximately 10:00am-2:00pm on the following days:

Fifth Grade:

April 20, 21, 22, 23 and April 27, 28, 29, 30

Fourth Grade:

May 18, 19, 20, 21

Remember, testing is part of learning. State assessment results do not impact student grades. Schools and districts use the results for curriculum planning and school improvement initiatives that benefit all students. If you would like to learn more about the M-STEP, please visit www.mi.gov/mstep.

Color War Pizza Party!

Congratulations to Mrs. Ball's and Mrs. Cripe's class for winning the Color Wars during March Is Reading Month! Both classes will enjoy a pizza party during lunch on Monday this week.

5th Grade Jr. High Presentations

This week, Mrs. Tremblay and Ms. Wyatt from the Junior High will be here to talk with 5th graders about their transition to 6th grade next year. This is something we do every year for our 5th graders so they have a better idea of what to expect when they get to 6th grade. Presentations will start in Mrs. Hammerschmidt's and Mr. Soderborg's classroom this week, and next week will be in Mrs. Ball's and Mrs. Reed's classroom.

Students always enjoy these presentations and have lots of good questions for Mrs. Tremblay and Ms. Wyatt! We look forward to having them in our building!

Reminder - Photo ID Is Required For Student Pick Up

When any adult is picking up a student during the school day, we do require that you enter the building and provide a Photo ID upon pick up. Adults must also be listed as a Contact for a child when being picked up as well. Our first priority is always student safety, thank you for helping keep your child safe.

Updated Contact Information

If your contact information or your child's emergency contacts have changed over the course of the school year, please be sure to contact the main office to update your information. Valid contact information is vital this year in the event that your child becomes ill at school or if we need to make contact with you.

Yearbook Orders

This year, due to COVID and the restrictions in place, you will be able to order a CIS yearbook online at: www.geskusphoto.com/?YB=4041 Ordering online will help to keep down the exchange of paper and money between GPI, the students and the school. The cost of each yearbook is $10.00. Online ordering will be available up until the yearbook goes to print (we will let you know when that happens). After the yearbook is printed you will still be able to order a yearbook, but there will be a shipping fee and it will be mailed directly to the address you provide when ordering. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
