MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
158th EDITION: May 29, 2020
From the Desk of Mr. Joe Price
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
― Charles R. Swindoll
What an eventful year this has been for our Marian community. As we close out the school year, I cannot help but reflect on the many challenges we have faced - this is certainly one for the ages. What I will remember most about this year is not the lightning, the flooded fields, nor the pandemic, but in the ways that we responded and made the best of every situation. I have seen this quote from Charles Swindoll many times and never found it to be so true as during my time here at Marian. 10/90
Remote Learning:
I have a somewhat unique perspective in terms of how schools have responded during the last several weeks. When we transitioned to remote learning, I was fortunate to see how things worked as an administrator, as a teacher, as a husband, and as a father - between my family, we have five different school settings (including the university level). I can attest hands down Marian’s response was the best! From the support in the community, Elevated Learning’s professional development, the administration’s prompt and decisive actions, and the flexibility of our amazing staff, Marian showed what we are made of. 10/90
Graduation:
While many area schools have given up completely or are still trying to figure it out, Marian responded with an individualized graduation ceremony orchestrated with a professional production company. It took place over three days with many hours of planning and preparation. This event was incredibly well organized and the students and families were amazing to work with - and we are still hopeful for a traditional ceremony. 10/90
Worship and Prayer:
Churches have been closed, but Father Twenty worked tirelessly and continued to provide daily Mass. His spiritual leadership has helped us all through these challenging times and it is watched live by many and viewed by the hundreds. 10/90
There are countless other 10/90 moments that have taken place this year and Marian Central Catholic High School has risen to the occasion. We do not know what will happen in the future or how all of this will unfold, but I am confident our “90” will always be at its best. May your 10’s be minimal and your 90’s be epic!
Have an amazing summer,
Mr. Price

Summer Camps at Marian Central
All high school camps in June have been postponed. We are waiting to hear from the IHSA and the Rockford Diocese on guidelines about student-athletes training at school during the summer. I am hoping every team will have the opportunity to have a high school camp in July.
All youth camps have been postponed until further notice. As we learn more about the restrictions pertaining to returning to sports, we are hoping to have youth camps in July.
