Capturing Kids Hearts - CKH

You may have heard the saying, “Put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” This quote is all about empathy. What is empathy?

  • Empathy is being able to know how someone else is feeling, even when you are not in the same situation.

  • Empathy is a key ingredient in having positive friendships and relationships because it helps us understand and relate to others.

  • It helps us to know how our actions affect others.

  • It teaches us what actions we need to take to be a good friend or teammate.

  • It helps us understand more about the people and the world around us.

This month, students will be learning about empathy. They will be learning what empathy means, ways to show empathy, and why it is important. Each week, students will have a special mission, or challenge to help focus on the word of the month. This week's mission was to smile and say 'hi' to three classmates.

Kind words created this beautiful tree! It's an affirmation tree. For a Capturing Kids' Hearts activity, 3rd-5th graders in WSE's Health classes, wrote one affirmation for themselves, one about a friend and one for a family member.
