Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope you and your family are having a wonderful summer and looking forward to an exciting school year! I am happy to continue to serve as the principal of Huntley Hills! Our theme this school year is “Build a Better World Together!Our staff are here to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally.


Here are a few highlights as we begin the 2021-2022 school year!


  • We received Cognia STEM recertification May, 2021. We are excited to continue our STEM program and clubs this school year!
  • We are excited to continue to offer Spanish class for K-5 students during specials. Although Ms. Gomez decided to run her business full-time, we were able to hire a certified Spanish teacher.
  • Our After School -Tiger Time program will resume on the first day of school. Registration forms are available at Open House.
  • All homeroom teachers will be required to send their parents a Welcome Letter on Tuesday, July 27th by 4pm.
  • Open House will be held in-person on Wednesday, July 28th.
  • Back to school information is also on our Huntley Hills website.


As we prepare to return to school, this newsletter provides all the back to school information you need to start the year smoothly. The first day of school is Monday, August 2nd. Please make sure your child is at school on time between 7:00-7:40. The first weeks of school is always busy so we ask for your patience with the front office, dismissal, car pool, and walkers.


If parents chose virtual learning for next school year, information will be available before school begins.

The candidate declaration window for 2021-2022 Principal Advisory Council elections will be open through Friday, September 3rd. Principal Advisory Councils bring parents, school employees, students and community members together to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other’s perspectives and share ideas for increasing student achievement and performance.


What is the role of the Principal Advisory Council?

  • Act as a link between the school and the community
  • Encourage the engagement of parents and other stakeholders within the school community
  • Work to increase student achievement through transparent operations and shared best practices
  • Review the Continuous School Improvement Plan and monitor progress toward goals
  • Participate in the selection of the school principal

Open House & Meet the Teacher (Updated July 12th)

The Open house and meet the teacher is Wednesday, July 28th from 9AM-1PM. Parents should bring photo id.


ALL visitors must wear a mask. Feeling sick? Please stay home and contact the school to register.

  • Proof of Residency-NEW and RETURNING families will register online. If you are having trouble, we will be able to assist you during open house. Please bring a copy of a (July/August only) electric, water, gas, or lease/mortgage and photo id.

  • Affidavit (Proof of Residency)-If you live with an individual, you will need to provide proof of residency with a completed and notarized affidavit. The form must be notarized. You can pick up an affidavit from the front office the week of July 19th from 8:00AM-3:00PM.

  • PTA Please visit https://www.hhes-pta.com for all back to school information! At the Open House and online, PTA will be selling **NEW** school gear like hoodies, tee shirts, and car magnets, as well as tiger house and polo shirts starting at $15. Join PTA with your cash or credit card at Open House and you'll get free school gear. PTA builds a stronger school community by purchasing classroom resources, books, instruments, art supplies and so much more. PTA advocates for our students, teachers, and our school. Support our school by joining PTA.

  • Volunteers Needed! Our school depends on volunteerism from our wonderful families. If you can help during Open House on July 28, please email Darrah at darrah.mcguire@gmail.com. Any amount of time you can offer is appreciated!


  • Afterschool Care (Tiger-Time)- Tiger time will have a table in the Media Center to register your child for after school care. After care is 2:30-6:30, M-F. The registration fee is $25.00 and $60.00 each week. Please bring cash, money order, or checks for registration fee and first week of payment.

  • Donated Uniforms- If your child has outgrown his/her uniform, please bring gently used uniforms to Open House. A table will be setup for parents to donate/collect free gently used uniforms.

Handy Tip: Bring school supplies during open house to your child’s classroom (teacher meet and greet) so your child doesn’t have to carry them in on the first day of school.

What to expect at Open House?

The key to a successful Open House is to have your forms ready, your cash, checkbook or Visa/MC credit card handy and to do these steps in order. Bring a copy of your proof of residency (July/August) for each student to make your process faster. Please follow all the steps in order.


Stop 1– Front Hallway Lobby: Proof of residency/id; Receive an Open House Checklist (Pre-K parents will proceed to PreK classroom; New students' parents will proceed to room # 101; Returning students Grades K-5 proceed to Cafeteria)

Stop 2-Cafeteria: Complete free & reduced lunch online (if needed)

Stop 3- Cafeteria: Get Connected! Constant Contact, Class Dojo & PTA MarketPlace-Turn in or fill out your PTA Membership and donate to HH Foundation; Sign-up for volunteer opportunities; Purchase new Tiger House shirts; View after school clubs; donate gently used uniforms; community groups on site (Girl/Boy Scouts, etc.)

Stop 4-Cafeteria: Transportation (Walkers, Bus, Car, Van riders & After school care)-Receive car tags, walker #s, bus stop location/times, and sign up for after care. Fill out a Transportation Form for each student. You will need to give this form to your teacher in the classroom (this form is not available online, only at Open House)

Stop 5– Classroom: MEET and GREET your new teacher. Must go to Stops 1, 2, 3 and 4 before you go to the classroom. Complete documents & sign up to be a room parent.


Note: Teachers will need the transportation form that you get at Stop 4.

Returning students-Online (NEW!)

Returning to Huntley Hills Elementary and Montessori School

The DeKalb County School District has moved all returning student registration to an online portal called "Annual Verification."

If your child is returning to Huntley Hills ES for the 2021-2022 school year, you must register them using this online verification portal. Step-by-step directions are attached and included below. During the verification process, be prepared to upload a copy of your license, proof of residence (June/July bill statements only), and your child's medical information. The district is moving all records to a digital format.

All questions pertaining to registration and access to Infinite Campus should be directed to our school registrar, Ms. Cassonia Miller: cassonia_miller at cassonia_miller@dekalbschoolsga.org or contact the school at 678-676-7402 between the hours of 9am-2pm starting Monday, July 19-Friday, July 27.


You can also email Ms. Miller your proof of residency and a valid ID (driver's license, passport, visa). In the subject line of the email please type only: Student's last name, Student's first name- student's grade level for 2021-2022 school year (ex. Smith, John- 5th Grade)

You should have the following documents ready to upload.


1. A proof of residency (Current June-only for June registration or July/August mortgage/lease, utility from only gas, power, or water). If mortgage/lease is not in parent/guardian’s name an affidavit needs to be completed

2. Parent Guardian ID

3. Updated GA Form 3231 Immunization


*Affidavit Requirements* (In-Person only)

1. The affidavit can be picked up in the front office

2. Both individuals must be present at the school to present the signed & notarized affidavit

3. The owner must present proof of residency (see above for acceptable bills)

4. Guardian should provide something mailed to them at the new address at which they are living

Kindergarten and New Student Registration

Kindergarten and New Student Registration opened March 26th. Children who turn five years old on or before September 1, 2021 are eligible for Kindergarten.


If your child is new to the country or English is not your child's first language, please call the DeKalb International Welcome Center (678) 538- 5246 to make an appointment, located at 1701 Mountain Industrial Road, Stone Mountain GA 30083.


To register your Kindergarten or new student for the 2021-2022 school year, parents should go online to complete registration: https://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/online-registration/new-students/


Documents needed:

1. Student’s birth certificate

2. Legal Guardianship/Custody Papers (if applicable)

3. Parent/Guardian Identification (license or passport)

4. A proof of residency (Current June-only for June registration or July/August mortgage/lease, utility from only gas, power, or water). If mortgage/lease is not in parent/guardian’s name an affidavit (see below) needs to be completed. (Cable, phone, cell phone bills are NOT accepted)

5. GA Form 3231 Immunization

6. GA Form 3300 Ear, Eye, and Dental screenings

7. Social Security Card (or sign waiver)

8. Withdrawal paperwork from previous school (grades 1-5 only)

Afterschool/Tiger Time

Afterschool Program "Tiger-Time"- Tiger time will have a table in the Cafeteria to register your child for after school care. After care is 2:30-6:30, M-F. The registration fee is $25.00 and $60.00 each week. Please bring cash, money order, or checks for registration fee and first week of payment. The registration form is located below.

Medication

If your child needs to take prescription medication at school, please complete the form below, notify your child's teacher and Nurse Faiza Khan at faiza_khan@dekalbschoolsga.org.

Free & Reduced Lunch

Parents must submit a new application every year to receive meal benefits. The Free & Reduced Meal application can be completed online at www.schoolcafe.com.

The application process is simple and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Parents can also download the app to pay on your child's account for breakfast and lunch. You can also visit the DCSD website for more information.

Pre-K Lottery results have been released. Parents whose child was selected in the lottery received an email from the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jones with additional registration forms and next steps. Please have the following documents below ready for Open House.
