A Word From Mrs. Loor
I hope you are enjoying having just one extra day to spend with your family and friends. As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I'd like to share some of his writing that struck me in recent years. In "Letter from Birmingham Jail," Dr. King addressed his fellow white clergymen who criticized the timing of his nonviolent protests and lamented that they were "more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice." This quote humbled and saddened me because Dr. King believed he had allies amongst those of his same faith. I think we still settle for order over justice. In remembrance of Dr. King, let's continue to fight for what is right even if it's out of our comfort zone, not just for what may be most convenient to keep the peace.
Students in 5P, 5C, and 3/4 K discussed the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Then they brainstormed ideas of words and pictures that they could use to create their own dreams for peace to show on their hand prints to display in the hall. We can fulfill Dr. King's dreams for peace together through our children and our children's children.
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!
Winter weather and freezing temperatures have arrived! It is important that students dress appropriately for the cold temperatures by wearing long pants, jackets, hats and gloves to school to ensure their health and safety while outside at morning line-up and recess. Risks associated with underdressing in the cold are hypothermia and frostbite, both of which can lower an individual’s immune system, making them more susceptible to viruses.
In addition, hypothermia occurs more quickly in children, and many children are not as in tune with their bodies and the symptoms of hypothermia as adults. This is due to the fact that children do not develop the full capacity to feel cold until at least 7 years old.
Fly high Falcons, but before you do, remember to put on your coat, hat and gloves!
