Happy New Year from the PE department! As most of you know, Mrs. Fields decided it was time for her to retire so that she could do some travelling with her daughter. We will miss her, but we are very excited to have Ms. Rachel Kaufman as her replacement. We are including a few interesting facts about her that you might want to know:
Rachel Kaufman (photo) is a graduate of Texas A&M in San Antonio. She is a product of NEISD. Growing up, she was very involved in gymnastics competing for 12 years and has been coaching gymnastics for 6 years. She has 2 dogs, a Boston Terrier girl named Frankie and a T-Cup Chihuahua boy named Rocky who she loves taking for walks. Her favorite color is turquoise. She has a major sweet tooth and loves almost any dessert with chocolate and peanut butter.
February is our jump rope unit, so you know what that means! We will be selling jump ropes the week of January 23-27. Our jump ropes cost $3.00. What a bargain! You will not be able to find a better jump rope for that price anywhere. And we can cut them to the correct size for your child. Practicing at home will make your child a better jumper, and they will be able to move through our color groups faster! We will find a way to post our color groups on the school website.
Jump Rope for Heart materials will also be coming home in February. The theme this year is “Zoo Crew”. They are asking all boys and girls to join the “Zoo Crew” by collecting donations for the American Heart Association. They are giving away zoo animals this year. We will have a kickoff for this campaign the first or second week of February. Thank you in advance for helping to fight heart disease!

Nurses Notes
Welcome to a Fabulous February! The month of February is designated as National Children’s Dental Health Month. In an effort to promote and encourage dental health, third grade students in North East ISD will have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Dental Screening Program conducting by a visiting Dentist. There is no charge for the screening and the screening is visual only. After the screening, 3rd grade parents will receive a brief report from the dentist regarding the status of your child’s dental health.
Please promote dental hygiene to your children and encourage them to brush twice a day while humming the happy birthday song twice, ~ 2 minutes is optimal for dental health care. Don’t forget to floss each time you brush your teeth!
Always remind your children to continue to wash their hands with soap and water before eating, after playing, after using the restroom, or whenever they expect their hands to be dirty. You can come into contact with germs anywhere so PROTECT YOURSELF!
