Inter's Third Grade Newsletter!
January 5, 2016-January 8, 2016
Announcements!
Parents,
As a Third Grade Team, we want to thank you for your support these past months! We appreciate your dedication to the school, and devotion to your child and their learning!
We recognize how important it is to spend time with family and friends during this Winter Break. Having a balance of family time and school time is also important during this time. Students are strongly encouraged to continue reading on RAZ kids every day for 20 minutes. This is imperative for students to maintain progress on their reading goals. Also, over the break students can practice for the upcoming chapter in Math. This will not only help students gain background knowledge of the content, but make for a more easy transition back to school. The link for Think Central is attached.
This week in Singapore Math!
When we come back in January, students will be starting Chapter 10-Money. Students will add and subtract money in different ways with and without regrouping. Students will solve up to two-step real-world problems involving addition and subtraction of money. The links below are great resources to practice skills for the upcoming chapter.

This week in Literacy!
When we come back in January, students will be starting Theme 8- Predicting Nature's Hazards. The comprehension strategy for this week and next week is Determine Importance. Students will determine which information is the most important in the text. For grammar, students will review homonyms, words that sound alike, but are different in spelling and meaning. An example of homonyms is blue, and blew. The balloon is blue. The wind blew the balloon away. Also, students will review word endings-ed,-ing, and-s. The vocabulary for this week includes, warning, curiosity, flight, caution, and concern.
*RAZ-KIDS!
Please make sure your child is reading each night, listening to the stories, and taking the quizzes. Reading for 20 minutes each night is one of the best ways for your child to become a better reader. Third Grade is tracking the number of books read in order for the class to earn incentives, such as a popcorn party! Thank you for your help with this!
