February 2017
Wrapping up Q3
Mrs. Webb has been meeting with students in one-on-one meetings this month to discuss class selections for next year. If your child has not met with her yet, she will be meeting with him/her soon. Remember that all course selections will be finalized by May 1st, so any questions or concerns about changes for sophomore year need to be addressed prior to that date.

Student Expectations Reminders
My first reminder is about appropriate language. It is important that we are preparing our students to be successful in life after high school and carrying themselves professionally and communicating with appropriate language is an important part of this process. From our student handbook:
“No student shall use profane, vulgar, racially or religiously derogatory, abusive, or otherwise
disrespectful language in any school building areas during school hours or at any school-sponsored or related activities or events."
My next reminder is our lanyard policy. This policy is an important part of what helps us to make BHS a safe and successful learning environment:
Our practice of wearing a lanyard and ID at all times is an expectation and considered part of our appearance guidelines. Repeated violations of this guideline will result in consequences from the team. Lanyards and ID’s are required to enter each class- every period -- and should remain on at all times throughout the day. Replacement lanyards and ID’s may be purchased in the Team office. Lanyards: $2 ID: $3
Getting to class on time is another important item. It seems as though we have had an increase in the number of consequences being assigned during the 3rd quarter because of students who are tardy to class. The following steps are used when students are tardy:
1st tardy = verbal warning
2nd tardy = verbal warning
3rd tardy = parents contacted
4th tardy = 30 minute school detention; parents contacted
6th tardy = Friday School Tier I * parents contacted
8th tardy = Friday Schools Tier II * parents contacted
Lastly, please speak with your students about our cell phone policy:
Students are permitted to have cell phones in school and use them before school until 7:50 a.m. Cell Phones and ear buds are not permitted in the hallways or classrooms between 7:50-2:50. Cell Phones are permitted in the Café during lunch periods. During school hours, cell phones can be used only when requested by the teacher for an educational purpose. Any other use of a cell phone during school hours will result in disciplinary action. It is not appropriate at any time during school or school related events that a cell phone be used to invade the privacy of another student.
If a cell phone/ electronic device rings, vibrates, or is used for any reason without teacher permission, or is visible anytime during class time your teacher may confiscate the device without question or argument. Earbuds are considered part of this policy. Earbuds that are insight will be confiscated and this will also include the device they are connected to. We will follow our routine consequences for these types of violation:
1st Offense – Student will pick up their phone from their Team Office at the end of the day
2nd Offense – Parent must pick up the phone
3rd Offense – Parent must pick up the phone and progressive consequences will begin
*Please be advised that if the teacher believes this device was being used to violate our Academic Integrity Policy the contents on the phone may be reviewed.
Refusal to surrender your cell phone/electronic device when asked is considered defiance. Defiance will result in disciplinary consequences starting with an immediate placement in In-School Suspension (ISS) and not limited to Out-Of-School Suspension (OSS) depending on the circumstances. The phone will be confiscated and parents will be contacted to pick up the phone.
