Winter Break and Chromebooks
Winter break is right around the corner, and I wanted to see if parents could help with reducing the number of damaged Chromebooks happening across the district. Post winter break is when the techs see the highest amount of damaged devices turned in. Please review with your student, the attached document that outlines some of the things that have caused the most damage to devices.
Literary Speed Dating
Students in Mr. Starkey's Gifted 7 and Gifted 8 classes at Lakeview Jr. High used the concept of speed dating as a strategy to discuss literary themes in the novels Fahrenheit 451 and The Great Gatsby. Students had a total of fourteen different questions which had to be discussed with fourteen different partners. Only ninety seconds was given to respond to each thematic question. After the speed rounds finished, the entire class came together to discuss various aspects of the questions and various perspectives. This activity stretched students to think beyond the texts by applying ideas to the real world and their own lives.
