Equity Audit Parent Focus Groups
As part of the District’s equity audit, parent 1-hour focus groups will be held across the District via Zoom during April to allow families to share their thoughts on our District’s strengths, areas of need, and long-term opportunities for providing the best educational experience for all students. Our partners will construct and lead focus groups in the equity audit process- the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC). There will be morning and evening focus groups available for parents. Every school’s goal is to have 15 families agree to participate in a focus group. During the week of March 21, a member of our school staff will begin calling parents from a document with families’ names listed in random order to invite prospective participants to be part of a focus group and at that time will share specific dates and times. All parents are welcome to email your written responses to the focus group questions to CEC should you not be selected to participate in a focus group but desire to share your opinions (A list of the focus group questions and a place for submitting your answers to them will be posted on the District website beginning April 4). We thank you for your commitment to equity in education, and we are excited about this next step in gathering the voices of our District to create a comprehensive plan for moving forward. If you have any questions regarding the focus group process, please contact our Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Dr. Tracy Taylor, at tracy.taylor@d303.org.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Students in grades 3 through 8 will be taking state tests in English/Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics between April 4 and April 22. This is the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Information about this year’s test has been posted at: https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment
For sample questions please go to: https://il.digitalitemlibrary.com/home
Additionally, students in grades 5, 8, and 11 are taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) between March 14 through the 25th. The Illinois Science Standards are based on the NGSS standards, and the ISA is designed to measure against those standards. For more information on the Illinois’s vision of K12 Science go to: https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Science.aspx
The specific testing days will be shared with you by your school.
Please encourage your child to give his or her best effort and, as always, preparing your child for a good day at school begins with a good night of sleep and a nutritional breakfast.
These state tests are one of several ways student achievement is measured in D303. Your child’s daily school work, teacher feedback, and report cards are also important when determining overall school achievement. If you have any questions regarding your child’s performance, be sure to talk with your child’s teacher or principal.
You will also receive information about your child’s individual performance on these tests in the fall. School and district results will be reported on the Illinois School Report Card.
Sincerely,
David Chiszar
Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability
Community Unit School District 303

Atentamente,
David Chiszar
Director Ejecutivo de Evaluación y Responsabilidad

Panorama Social-Emotional-Behavioral Assessment
The survey window is currently open for all 3rd-5th grade students to participate in our district’s social-emotional screener, Panorama. Students participate in the survey in their classroom, proctored by their classroom teacher. Information about Panorama is provided below.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 strives to provide all students with the best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in school. As part of this commitment, District 303 is enhancing our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) across the district for the 2021-2022 school year.
In the fall of this school year students in grades 3-12 completed a universal screening tool to assess their social and emotional learning skills. In the spring students in grades 3-12 will complete a follow up survey. The use of universal screening allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with social and emotional learning.
One of the universal screening tools used by the District is the Panorama SEL Survey, which focuses on the following areas:
Self-Management
Emotional Regulation
Social Awareness
Grit
Self-Efficacy
Sense of Belonging
Teacher-Student Relationship
The Panorama SEL Survey for students will be completed between March 14th to 25th. If a screening shows that a student will benefit from additional skill development, parents will be contacted and will work in collaboration with school staff to problem-solve and determine next steps.
Additional information about this screener and other assessments in District 303 may be found on our website at https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment. Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success.
Please feel free to contact your building principal or me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
David Chiszar
