The Winter Weather is Here!
Winter has arrived brining cold temperatures and snow. Even though it is is colder, time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons! Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will need warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter. Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Disney has received donations of winter gear in various sizes. Please reach out to the office if you are in need of coats, hats, or gloves for your child.
PBIS Bingo Celebration
Back in September, our PBIS team implemented our Be a Disney Star program and set a goal that at least 80% of our students will know and understand what it means to be a Disney STAR by December. We are so proud of all our students for not only meeting this goal, but exceeding it! Our students have been learning about and working towards always showing their best Disney STAR behavior (Show kindness, Take responsibility, Always be safe, and Respect others). We celebrated their hard-work by having a bingo celebration!
Minnie Project
The Disney PTO, along with Mrs. Sarcona, started a program called “The Minnie Project” at Disney Elementary. They collect feminine hygiene products for the 5th and 6th grade girls.
Each kit comes in a cosmetic bag that contains a variety of pad sizes, a Ziploc bag, a flushable wipe, an inspirational quote, a message from the female teachers in the school, a travel size deodorant, and a piece of chocolate. We appreciate the support of Mrs. Sarcona and the Disney PTO for this very important resource for the upper elementary girls at Disney Elementary. We are always taking donations. Please drop them off in the school office if you are willing to donate any supplies.
Student Council Spreads Holiday Cheer
Start 2024 off with Great Attendance!
As we end winter break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students and adults.
Many of our families have demonstrated great attendance patterns throughout this school year and are on pace to finish the year with 9 or fewer absences- which is excellent! Some of our other families are working to improve their child's attendance rate by getting their child to school for as many 5-day weeks as possible! As each week passes that your child is here every day, their attendance rate improves and their lifelong habits of good attendance become more deeply engrained.
No matter where your family stands, working towards creating good attendance habits will help set students up for lifelong success. Attendance Works has put together a helpful list of tips to help keep your child healthy and in school.
We want to thank all our families, students, and staff for their continued support of our attendance initiatives. We're looking forward to partnering with you in 2024 to establish good attendance routines in our Disney Stars because that matters more than words can say!
Health Guidance For Going to School
We want to partner with our families to make our school a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for your students. Make sure to send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children at home unless they are too sick to participate.
We have put together this helpful chart of when to keep your child home and when they can return to school for common illnesses.
Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account. All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.
Lunch Aide Needed
Lunch aides are needed every M-F. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mrs. Porter at (586)439-6400 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
Parking Lot Reminders
We all know that the Disney parking lot is challenging at times, especially during the winter months. We understand that our dismissal can be stressful and intense with the high volume of car pickup students. From time to time it is important to review our procedures. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely
- Please stay all the way to the right in the pick-up line to allow others to enter the parking lot and thru traffic to pass
- Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes, parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed
- Please be distraction free - refrain from using cell phones, loud music, or other distracting activities. Pay attention and be on the lookout for people walking through the lots
- Please do not pull through the parking spaces to exit. Those parking should back out of parking spaces and utilize the thru traffic line to exit the parking lot.
- Please turn right on Kelly when exiting the parking lot for safety and to help assist with traffic flow.
- The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking, emergency vehicles, and exiting traffic only. Please do not park or drop-off/pick-up students in the bus loop. Families may not park on Kelly and walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
