Red Ribbon Week, 2018
Friday, October 26th, Westport celebrated the end of Red Ribbon Week with the traditional Impact Awareness Day! Random students were selected by their core teachers to have their faces painted white and black. The chosen few weren’t allowed to talk to anyone except for the teachers or staff.
“The paint represents those who died to drug or alcohol related incidents. It’s a very somber occasion that deserves to be recognized!” PT stated to the Scary Clown following her through the seizure inducing Hotel Of Terror.
Ready for the statistics? 28% of teenage adolescents have used alcohol, 15% have smoked cigarettes, 16.5% have used marijuana. 5000 people under 21 die each year from alcohol related crashes, homicide, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries. More than 190,000 visited an emergency room for serious injuries related to alcohol. Teens who constantly learn about the risks regarding drugs and alcohol are 50% less likely to use them than those who don’t.
