Ms. Lyons Creates Favorite Book Tree

Students were challenged to trace and cut out their hand and write about their favorite book. Students documented their answer with a reason for their selection. Miss Lyons and Mrs. Edwards combined all of the hands into a fall tree display outside the back door of the library. It has been a big hit with teachers and students alike and has offered a burst of vivid autumn color to Village Academy.

Publix "Tools for Schools"

The McKinney Vento Program in conjunction with Publix Supermarkets has provided Village Academy with a windfall of supplies such as: crayons, pencils, filler paper, glue, markers, color pencils, pens, pocket folders, scissors and spiral notebooks. Ms. Latour and Ms. Hildebert are working to have supplies delivered to teachers.

What is the McKinney Vento Program? The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. Under this program, state educational agencies must ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as other children and youth.

Field Trip Procedures

We are currently in the process of streamlining the steps to create field trips. The new field trip check list will be provided to you soon. Please note that you must notify the school nurse via email @ of what students you will be taking on field trips as some have daily medications and emergency meds (Epi-pens) that should go with them. Everyone should also complete the field trip training video in E-Learning prior to submitting paperwork. See the title below or sign into e-Learning and search the catalog for "field trips".
