3. What does someone who has this job do?
Software developers need to be effective communicators as they will have to convey instructions to colleagues who are working on projects they are overseeing. Since developers generally work with others, they should be strong team players. They should also have good analytical and problem solving skills. The former will allow them to determine users' needs and the latter to troubleshoot problems that develop during the development process. In addition they must be detail-oriented, creative and have strong customer service skills.

5. What training is required to do this job?
1. A bachelor's degree, usually in computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering or mathematics or completion of a college program in computer science is usually required.
2. A master's or doctoral degree in a related discipline may be required.
3. Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required to approve engineering drawings and reports and to practice as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
4. Engineers are eligible for registration following graduation from an accredited educational program, three or four years of supervised work experience in engineering and passing a professional practice examination.
5. Experience as a computer programmer is usually required.
6. Most recent entrants have an undergraduate university degree.

In a world of ever-expanding technology and gadgets, there's plenty of demand. And having helped build a product that's out in the world can create a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. But spending that much one-on-one time with a computer isn't for everyone. Plus, many projects involve tough deadlines, which can mean long hours trying to fix last-minute issues.
