Jireh's Hopeful Message
"Learning patience can be a difficult experience, but once conquered, you will find life is easier.” – Catherine Pulsifer
I just want to appreciate your patience and kindness. The confusion of the first week of school; students figuring it out where to go and who to ask, educators recognizing new faces, and parents patiently waiting for their students during pick up. Thank you for working with us. I was with students in activities during the first few days of ASES. I was learning their nicknames, listening to summer stories, and memorizing names. I am 99.9% certain that I can name all ASES students.
I am excited for this new year. I hope that we continue to partner together and make ASES a wonderful place.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jireh

EARLY RELEASE & LATE ARRIVAL FORMS
PM ASES
In order to keep our program at no cost to families, we have a mandatory attendance requirement. This year, ASES is allowing families to pick up students early to meet their needs. If you are leaving early before 6:00 p.m., please sign an EARLY RELEASE form. By signing this form, your attendance will count despite leaving early.AM ASES
For morning families, please sign the LATE ARRIVAL form if you are dropping off your students after 6:45 a.m. By signing this form, your attendance will be counted in the morning.
If you need assistance with these forms, please reach out to Mr. Jireh (jiadvincula@powayusd.com) and Ms. Val (vcervantes@powayusd.com).
Activity Highlights
FRIENDLY REMINDERS
- ASES is an attendance-based grant program. It is free and for BMMS ASES to continue, we require attendance. There are two things that the program needs from you: sign in and sign out properly. Students sign in right after school in their ASES homework room (ACADEMY signs in at the cafeteria). For signing out, please sign the paper on the table, and scan out using the computer.
2. MEDICATION
- BMMS nurse leaves right after school and we do not have access to any medication. If you require your students to take medication (including Epi-Pens) in the afternoon, please let ASES know.
3. TEXTBOOK
- ASES has a Textbook Cart. Students need to ask their ASES homework teacher where to borrow the textbook (It's in Room 809). Library will also be accessible after Labor Day for ASES students from 3:45 - 5:30 p.m. Math textbooks are also accessible online. Please reach out to an educator on any concerns and questions regarding textbooks.
4. CELLPHONES & ELECTRONIC ASES POLICY
- No cell phones from bell to bell. Last bell in school is at 3:45 p.m. Student’s cell phones and electronics (this would include earbuds) are NOT to be used during ASES first hour. Educators have the discretion to utilize technology (cell phones, earbuds, etc.) during their homework time.
5. MORNING ASES
- ASES is available for students before school each school day from 6:15 a.m. until the school gates open. Drop off time is between 6:15 - 6:45AM. Please reach out to Mr. Jireh (jiadvincula@powayusd.com) for more info.
6. ABSENT
- It is advisable to communicate with us if your student is not attending ASES. If a student is absent the whole day, no need to email us. However, if they are present but will miss ASES, please email Mr. Jireh or Ms. Val. Thank you.
7. DISCIPLINARY
BMMS ASES is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students. To promote safety and comfort for everyone, all individuals are expected to behave appropriately when participating in our programs on or off campus. The following are disciplinary actions when expectations aren't met:
- Verbal warning
- Removal from an activity
- Behavior contract
- Referral to ASES Supervisor
- Parent Meeting
- Referral to Assistant Principal/Counselor
- ASES Detention
- School Detention
- ASES Citation (three citations warrant dismissal from ASES)
- ASES suspension (1 - 3 days)
- Dismissal from ASES
**Note: Our goal is not to punish but to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and building relationships.
8. STUDENT SELF SIGN OUT
- Only students that have parent's permission are allowed to self sign out. Students must be picked up five minutes after leaving ASES. See attachment below for a self-sign out form. Return forms to ASES office.
ASES SPORTS UPDATE
- Sadly, this year, due to late start schedule change and bus driver shortage, it will be very difficult to have a bus for ASES sports. Parents need to drive their students to away games. Please reach out to Mr. Jireh for questions and concerns.
- Parents can carpool, more info soon.
