Apple App Store vs. Google Play
Abby Kamin
Emphasis
I think Google Play places more emphasis on games in their PC store and music in their mobile store. When you open the Google Play page on PC, the very first thing you see is games available for download. When you open it on a mobile device, the first thing you see available for download is music.
I think Apple places more emphasis on Games in both their PC store and mobile store. When you open the Apple App Store page on PC, there is a list of all different categories of games immediately. When you open it on a mobile device, the first thing you see-besides new apps- is a button labeled "Games".
Prices
As for prices, Google Play and the Apple App Store usually price their items the same. I searched a few apps I knew cost money in the Apple App Store and they were priced the same in the Google Play Store. I then asked a friend for some examples of items that cost money in the Google Play store, searched them in the Apple App Store and found they cost the same. There only a couple items on Google Play for money that were free on the Apple App Store and only a few the other way around, too.
Layout
I really like the layout of Google Play on both mobile and PC. It's very neat and organized, not too cluttered and appears easy to navigate. It is also colorful and appealing to the eye. The search bar is easy to find on both versions.
Although I do like Google Play's layout better, I still like Apple's layout. It is also neat and organized, not too cluttered and easy to navigate. However, it looks more boring than Google Play's layout does, and I believe that's why I think Apple's layout is not as good as Google's. Nonetheless, Apple still has a good layout going.
Access
Google Play's app store is easier to access on a PC than Apple's. To get to Google Play on a PC, you simply go to the address bar and type in play.google.com and the computer loads up the page. As for mobile, Google Plays app store is just as easy to get to as Apple's. To get to the Google Play app store on a mobile device such as an android, you simply find the Google Play app, click it, and you're there.
Apple's app store is not quite as easy to get to on a PC as Google Play's. You can type in itunes.apple.com in the address bar but then you have to scroll down to the bottom of the webpage and click "Browse App Store" under the "iTunes Store" heading. As for mobile, Apple's app store is just as easy to get to as Google Play's. To get to the Apple App Store on a mobile device such as an iPhone, you simply find the App Store app, click it, and you're there.

App Availability
The Apple App Store and Google Play have a lot of the same apps. I thought of a few popular apps and searched them on both and found them on both. I also picked a few of my favorite apps on my iPhone and found that they were all on the Google Play store.
App Quantity and Quality
After doing some research I discovered the Apple App Store and the Google Play store have about the same number of apps. I wasn't going to sit down and count them all, but when I checked out the Wikipedia page for both stores I found Apple has 1 million+ apps available and Google has the same. They were both released within three months of each other.
The quality of apps from both stores is about the same. I looked at a few popular apps on my phone and then looked at the same apps on a friends android and they were both equally put together as well and worked the same.
I like both stores and the apps they offer. However, I like the Apple App Store better. This could be just because I'm used to it and have experience using it.

App Approval Process
There is not much of an app approval process for Google Play. There's a simple launch checklist to look over and that's about it.
On the other hand, Apple's App approval process takes three to four weeks. Apple is also picky and places a lot of restrictions on the app developer.
I believe Google Plau is less likely to have bugs in their apps. They provide developers with a great way to test their apps and get rid of any bugs while Apple does not.
To submit an app to the Apple App Store you have to register as a developer and pay a yearly fee of $99. To submit an app to the Google Play store you must also register as a developer but you only have to pay a one time fee of $25.
