The Sun
and its layers
The layers
The core
The Sun's core is the central region where nuclear reactions consume hydrogen to form helium. These reactions release the energy that ultimately leaves the surface as visible light.
Radioactive zone
This is where the nuclear fusion happens to create energy.
Photosphere
Considered the surface of the sun and is very hot
Corona
The outermost layer of gasses that surround the sun and can only be seen during an eclipse
Chromosphere
Appears as a red glow above the suns photosphere
Sunspots
Appear on the sun as dark spots and are colder than the rest of the sun
Prominence
Huge arches of gas extending from the sun's surface that affect earth
Solar Flare
Huge explosions occurring on the sun that are usually near sunspots
