Cooper Mountain Newsletter
September 27, 2018
Dear Cooper Mountain Families,
Since some of you were unable to attend the orientation, I want to share some ways we partner with our volunteers throughout the year and encourage you to consider joining the learning community here at Cooper Mountain.
Read with your child at home.
Come to Cooper Mountain and read with a child.
Encourage your child to write notes to you at home.
Come to Cooper Mountain and prepare writing journals.
Look over your child's work at home.
Help teachers create work folders or packets.
Teach your child some high level vocabulary words.
Help a child master their Power Words.
Exercise or play with your child.
Come to the Cougar Run and cheer your child's classroom on!
This is just a short list of possible ways you can promote our mission of promoting learning and confidence in your child. There are so many ways to be involved and I'm pretty sure you would meet some amazing parents and have fun.
This Friday is our Cougar Run!
Take care,
Kristin
Oregon Battle of the Books
An Exciting Opportunity
The OBOB committee has approved each title as appropriate for third through fifth graders. Here are some key points from the OBOB Secretary:
"OBOB is a voluntary program. No child is required to read every title. If no member of a particular team reads a title, it does potentially put that team at a competitive disadvantage.... This is okay. It may potentially disadvantage such a team in competition, but will not diminish the value of the reading students do, the teamwork they carry out, or the value of the 15 books on the lest they do read."
"Please be assured no content of a mature nature will be used in the writing of questions."
I have prepared a list of the titles, arranged alphabetically, with a brief description of the content. You will notice a wide array of topics, genres, and interests.
If you choose to have your child opt out of reading a book, please contact Kristin LeMon.
