Wylie High School
2018 - 2019
About WHS
Wylie High School, home of AHMO pride, is the original high school of Wylie Texas. Our students and staff are proud of the traditions and many student achievements that have occurred since it's opening in 1905. Enrollment has reached a total of 2,596 students and we are still growing. We are known for our strong academics, accomplished fine arts, as well as our winning athletics. Don't be surprised if you hear someone call out "ahmo!".
Mission Statement
The Wylie High School Library Program is the heart of WHS where, in partnership with teachers, students are nurtured to grow and develop a love of reading, deeper understanding of the world of information, and an appreciation of their own abilities, paving the way to their successful future.
Collaborative Projects
The Other Wes Moore
This year I worked with the English Advanced Academic Team to help plan our school-wide read, The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore. On our Wes Moore Day, I presented with one of our teachers and a public librarian a session of book talks that relate to the book.
Promotion of Naviance
Wylie ISD purchased Naviance this year for our students. I met with Amanda Martin and we put together a presentation that I shared with our English teachers during PLC.
Banned Books Week with Journalism Class
Our journalism teacher, Cindy Anderson, asked if I could present to her class a lesson on Banned Books and their freedom to read. Her students submitted stories to her and she submitted the article which was published.
Literacy
Digital Books Added to New Collection!
Overdrive's Sora digital book collection was also added this spring. The promotion will take place at the end of the year as students are turning in books and other materials for the summer.
Book Club
Our student-led book club meets monthly in the library. Books were purchased from Scholastic Book Fair and Donors' Choose.
Spanish Picture Books
Kristi Sanchez, one of our Spanish teachers, asked me if I could order a few Spanish picture books for her students to use in her class for a writing activity. I purchased several books and continue to purchase more for this collection. She has been so excited about what she can do with these books!
