Class Series 2012

Achieve Uninhibited, Expressive, Powerful Singing!

Vocal Performance: This class series is designed to offer a constructive performance setting for singers. Singing publicly, within the studio environment, each singer is challenged to evaluate and encourage their personal level of talent, experience, preparation, and professionalism.

Industry Artists and Instructors provide positive and professional coaching in repertoire, musicality, communication, acting and song interpretation and overall performance skills.

Each 3 hour class is limited to an enrolled 12 singers, who meet once a week, for four consecutive weeks.

Each week a new, specific style of singing and repertoire (including Pop/Rock, Contemporary Music Theater, Traditional Music Theater, Character/Comedy Pieces, Ballads, etc) is covered with song choices and audition cuts assigned by Kurt and his associate instructors.

The class series is open to all styles and backgrounds of singers including pop, theatre, lyrical, and classical. Singers and songwriters preparing to perform, record, audition, and display their compositions are strongly encouraged to participate.

Guest Artist - Genny Lis Padilla

Currently Performing in the Off-Broadway Revival of Rent at New World Stages. Recently seen in the 1st national tour of In The Heights as Carla, and later moving into the starring role of Nina Rosario. Other favorite credits include: Junie B. Jones and Frida Liberada. She is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and has a BFA in Musical Theater from the New School University.

Kurt Robinson

Praised for his attention to, and modern interpretations of the time-honored Italian School of singing. Kurt is accomplished in helping professional and aspiring performing artists develop their voices for the Broadway stage and for popular recording. Highly skilled and an expert in mix technique, he consistently bridges the gap between the most modern styles of pop music and a traditional, healthy approach to singing.

Kurt’s clientele have enjoyed thriving lead performances in some of the hottest Broadway productions and national tours, including Rent, Bonnie and Clyde, Newsies, Spider Man, American Idiot, Rock of Ages, The Addams Family Musical, Billy Elliot, In the Heights, Hair, Spring Awakening, The Color Purple, Hairspray, Wicked, The Lion King, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera, Dream Girls, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, Producers, Chicago, Spamalot, the Radio City Rockettes, and more. He has coached recording artists for the Columbia Artists, Jive, Def Jam, Epic, Atlantic, and Nickelodeon labels.

Kurt maintains a private studio in New York City and works regularly with students across the United States, in L.A., in Europe, and in Japan. He taught at the Broadway Dance Center in New York for 8 years, during which time he served as music director and vocal adviser to SMASH choreographer Josh Bergasse.

Kurt is a headlining vocal coach for MSA Talent Agency NYC. He teaches master workshops for the Jikei Group Music Conservatories in Tokyo, Japan. He holds a Master's in Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music.
