Happy New Year from Rose Hill
Happy New Year and welcome back!
I hope each of you had a chance to find time to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate while spending meaningful time with your family and friends during the winter break. Prior to break, I charged our staff to find time to rest. They worked so hard during the first semester to enhance the learning environment for all of our mustangs. Our Mustang family is thankful for all opportunities to impact young lives. Our students are the reason we are here. I do not take that for granted and our staff is fully committed to creating an environment where every student feels Safe and Cared for so that learning can take place.
As we prepare for students to return on January 2nd, we have one main goal for our students and we hope it closely matches yours. We want ALL of them to become all that they can be. We want them to be successful through good, consistent attendance, perseverance, utilizing help from our teachers, and working diligently. We want this because these traits will build good habits that will carry them profitably throughout their life. We expect a great deal from them because they are so very capable of producing great results!
I am so proud of our students' tenacity and ability to adjust to change. The beginning of the year was filled with unknowns but they managed to overcome the adversity and just like we expected, they thrived. I look forward to what the second part of the school year will produce for our mustangs. Here's to 2024!

2024 Winter Weather Information
Greetings!
Wintery weather in Ohio can make an appearance at any time and cause disruptions to our school day.
Here is important information about what process is used to determine when to cancel or delay school, as well as the many ways we let families know about school closures.
Who decides when to close Reynoldsburg City Schools?
The Superintendent consults with the transportation and facilities teams to determine if school must be closed for inclement weather or another emergency event. An all-day closure will mean there will not be any educational instruction that day.
Monitoring Weather Conditions:
Our transportation and facilities teams monitor the weather forecast and check road conditions. When assessing the safety of the morning commute, our focus is on getting students to school safely. Several factors are taken into consideration, such as temperatures and wind chills that could pose a frostbite risk for children walking or waiting at school bus stops; can school bus drivers navigate routes with proper traction and visibility; and are neighborhood sidewalks covered in ice or snow that could cause a hazard to students who walk to school.
Notification Process
We know unexpected scheduling changes can cause added stress on families, so we make the decision as early as possible to allow parents to make arrangements for children staying home.
Whenever possible, the decision to close or delay school will be made the previous evening. Announcements may be made as late as 6 a.m. depending on a variety of factors. We notify local television and radio stations, post on social media, and send emails, texts and phone calls to families. Please let your school’s secretary know if you need to update your contact information in our system, so you will be sure to receive notifications.
When Reynoldsburg City Schools close:
- Preschool is canceled.
- Transportation to Eastland-Fairfield Career Centers is not provided
- All evening activities in the elementary and middle school buildings are canceled.
- High school evening activities may take place depending on the weather throughout the day. Communication regarding such events will be made by coaches or advisors.
- Community groups scheduled to use school facilities (e.g., Park and Recreation, Scouts, etc.) will have their events canceled.
Calamity Days:
The State of Ohio requires a minimum number of hours for instruction each school year. If we miss more school hours due to calamity days than the state's minimum requirement allows, we would need to make up the instructional hours to meet the minimum hour requirements.
If you have additional questions, please contact the principal at your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tracy R. Reed
Superintendent

Rose Hill Arrival Process
Rose Hill welcomes all students at 9:05 am each day. The Tardy bell is at 9:20 am. If your child arrives after that time, you must sign him/her in.
We kindly ask for parents not to drop off any students before 9:05 am as they will be unsupervised until 9:05 am, when the doors open. This includes our car riders. Please do not release them from the cars until 9:05. Additionally, as temperatures drop below 32 degrees, frostbite can occur if anyone remains outside for extended periods of time.

Car Drop Off Line- Safety is our #1 priority. We are asking all parents to follow the direction of our staff who are on duty during arrival and dismissal. Please adhere to the morning and afternoon guidelines to ensure that all of our staff and students remain safe at all times.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Attendance
Why Does Attendance Matter?
Research shows that attendance is an important factor in student achievement
Every school day counts in a child's academic life...
A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn.
The primary rationale for high-quality attendance data is the relationship between student attendance and student achievement. Teacher effectiveness is the strongest school-related determinant of student success,1 but chronic student absence reduces even the best teacher's ability to provide learning opportunities. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child's school career. A recent study looking at young children found that absenteeism in kindergarten was associated with negative first grade outcomes such as greater absenteeism in subsequent years and lower achievement in reading, math, and general knowledge.2
