3rd GRADE BIKE RODEO
Third graders will soon be learning about bicycle safety in the classroom. The BIKE RODEO is a fun way for them to practice what they have learned by maneuvering their bike around an obstacle course under the direction of Officer Derrick Pierce, the School Resource Officer from the Lenexa Police Department.
Upon completion of the course, each student will receive an official “CITY of LENEXA BICYCLE LICENSE”! The “license” gives students the privilege of riding their bike to and from school.

Head Lice
Parents,
As cooler weather approaches we tend to see an uptick in cases of head lice. Please check your child routinely for signs and symptoms of head lice which include an itchy head, sores on the scalp, and the presence of live bugs or nits (eggs). If your child has these symptoms please contact your health care provider for treatment recommendations. Remember to also take steps to clean bedding, recently worn clothing, sofas, and car seats. Also remind children not to share items like hats, jackets, brushes, etc. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse.
Thank you,
Dianne J Rood RN

World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser
As of now we have a few students who still have money outstanding. Blue reminders went home in your child's backpack on Thursday with the amount they still owe. Please note that we ordered enough prizes for ALL students who participated. Prizes will be delivered as soon as they are received to students who have paid in full. For those who still owe, your child will receive their prize once all money has been collected. We have been notified that the prizes may be a bit delayed due to them coming from Florida.
The GameKart has been scheduled for Friday, October 27th for all kids who sold at least 2 cases of chocolate. Kids who have earned the GameKart must have all money in prior to October 27th or else that opportunity will be missed.
Contact Gwyn Dill at gwyndill@gmail.com or 913-638-6854 if you have any questions. Once again, thanks for supporting your PTA!

UPDATE,
Although there is a lot of political talk surrounding the Affordable Care Act, it is still the law and the most affordable option for those whose employer’s do not offer health insurance. Many SMSD families rely on the ACA for health insurance. As you may be aware, Blue Cross and Blue Shield has pulled out of the marketplace in the Kansas City area. Centene (Sunflower) and Medica are likely to be the providers. Most ACA families will need to re-enroll in order to have continued health coverage. This year the enrollment period for the Healthcare Marketplace is Nov 1-Dec 15th.
***Enroll Kansas will be at SMWest on Nov. 7th and SMNorth on Nov 9th. Times TBD. Enroll Kansas has forwarded the below videos.
