Husky Highlight

November 4, 2019

A Note from Mrs. Fitzpatrick

Greetings Hosmer Families,

Thanks to those who attended the "Watertown Talks Equity" Event sponsored by the Anti-Bias Coalition.....not able to is a link to an excellent TED talk.

While November is a busy month with days off and half days, it is also an exciting month! Families and teachers will be meeting this month to discuss the hard work that students are doing and to create learning goals for the year. If you have not signed up for a conference with your child's teacher yet, it is not too late. Further down in the newsletter you will find the link to sign up for a conference.

What Did the Husky See?

Each week the Hosmer Husky will live in a different classroom. Here is the Husky's report on the week in Mrs. Donato's 3rd grade class!

Whew! What a fun-filled week I had in Mrs. Donato’s class! I started the week by learning all kinds of things such as estimating and using a scale to weigh objects in kilograms, how to read and talk about expository text, and watching students write a true story fast and furiously. As the week went on things got even more exciting when members of the Watertown fire department visited the classroom to teach us about how to come up with a plan with our families for getting out of our home safely during an emergency– just like we do at school with our drills! Then I joined Mrs. Donato’s class as they met with their buddies and created monster mash glyphs. The next day was wacky hat or hair day. There were so many cool hats and hairdos! I wore a witch’s hat and a donut – how wacky is that? Finally, I wrapped up my exciting week with a field trip to Plimoth Plantation. It was like time-traveling back to the 17th century! We got to see a Wampanoag Homesite and 17th century English village up close.

I can’t wait to see what next week brings!

Best wishes!

Garden Clean Up

As we get deeper into Fall, it is time to put the Hosmer Garden to bed for the season. I have been working with Judy Fallows, our Garden Coordinator, to schedule a time for the Fall Clean up and now we are looking to get the word out and recruit some wonderful volunteers to join us!

We are hoping you could help spread the word by including this flyer (see attachment) in next week's issue of the Husky Highlight. I appreciate your help in getting the word out, and please let me know if you have any questions about the event.

If you would also like a text description, please see below:

It's Fall clean up time in our school garden! Families are needed to help put the gardens to bed for the winter. Bring the kids to help rake, weed, plant bulbs, and more.
