"HESnapshot" - The featured staff of the week at HES
Jen McIlvin - Integrated Pre-K Special Education Teacher
I grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts and have always enjoyed living close to the ocean. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology and communication disorders from The College of Wooster in Ohio. After graduating, I began working at The May Institute in Chatham. There I began my career in early childhood working with preschool aged children with Autism by integrating them into the Sandwich Preschool Program. Working at the May Institute, I became interested in behavior management and analysis. I received my Master’s degree in Severe Special Education from Fitchburg State University. I have been working as an Integrated Preschool teacher in Harwich for the past 9 years. I have been married for 20 years, this year and have two children, Kyle (18) and Abigail (13). We enjoy being on the boat in the summer and skiing in the winter. I have a great appreciation for teaching young children and am constantly amazed by the growth and development they display each year.
Erin Cronen - Integrated Pre-K Special Education Teacher
Mary Levy - Make Way For Kids (MWFK) Pre-School Teacher
I grew up on Cape Cod and always felt fortunate to live in such a special place. I went to Elms College in Western Mass., concentrating on Elementary Education. I always knew I wanted to work with young children. After graduating, I got married, traveled with my husband, and then settled in Harwich where we had four incredible and very interesting children. They all went to school in Harwich. I think when my children were young is when I started to understand and appreciate the
importance of early intervention and early education. I began taking more classes in early childhood education; I opened a small home day care, worked for Head Start, and have been a preschool teacher in this system for twenty years. I now have three beautiful grandchildren and am hoping for more in the very near future. For fun, I am learning to play the ukulele and guitar. At least once a week, my family, which includes my sister, my brother, my husband, and daughters, and occasionally my grandchildren, get together and sing. We have performed the National Anthem at Cape League baseball games. Our big dream is to sing at Fenway Park for the Red Sox.
