Field Day
The second graders have another fun-filled L.E.S. field day under their belts. It made me sad that I was unable to be with them today, as I had a visit to my orthopedic surgeon. It looks like my summer might be filled with other plans for me. I'd like to show my appreciation to the families that chose to volunteer their time toward this effort. They day could not have happened without you! I'll bet everyone--students and adults--will sleep well tonight!
Life Cycles Continued
After finally wrapping up our in-depth explorations of plants, this week we've been intrigued with the life cycle of a butterfly and its remarkable metamorphosis. Look for your child's amazing pictorial version of this concept to be sent home soon. They turned out so very nice, and we are proudly displaying them in the hall. This unit of study helped us to address the following Indiana Academic Standards in the area of Science.
- Compare and contrast details of body plans and structures within the life cycles of plants and animals.
- Determine patterns and behavior (adaptations) of parents and offspring which help offspring to survive.
Book Fair
Don't forget about the Buy One Get One (BOGO) Free Book Fair! Students say a lot of exciting books when we visited on Wednesday. Our class will be visiting one more time on Monday from 1:30-2:00. Click here to access a website to set up cash-free purchasing for your child. At this site you are able to set your child up an eWallet account for your child to use without the worry of him or her losing money.
Next Week's Share Topic: Summer Fun
This share topic wasn't on our initial Share Topic schedule, but since we are in school for the whole week, why not?
What fun things do you have planned to do over the summer? Do you have lots of scheduled events, or do you plan to use this time for relaxing? Does your family have any travel plans, or will you be doing the "staycation," like Mrs. Drudy usually does? Let's hear all about it.
ReadWorks
Speaking of summer...
Are you looking for a way to keep your child reading over the summer? ReadWorks, the company that makes reading passages and comprehension questions that are similar to ones your child used during his or her eLearning Days, is offering families a summertime membership. It will cost each family $15.99 for the whole summer and includes:
· 8 week email membership that provides nonfiction articles tailored to the level and interests of their child along with high-quality activities.
· 4 live or recorded webinars about how parents can use ReadWorks to help their children get the most out of summer reading.
· Plus, proceeds go directly to new high-quality materials you can use in school.
Cleaning Out
Please make sure your child brings a large sack on both Thursday and Friday. The cleaning our process will be underway. I don't want your child to be completely burdened with all of his or her belongings on that last day. We'll start sending things home on Thursday.
