Message From the Principal
We are nearing the end of October. We were so excited to see students as we returned from fall break. Students had a blast with their fall parties on Friday. Our soccer team won once again on Saturday! They had a terrific season! We are getting into the busiest time of the school year. Below, we have more information and dates for all of these upcoming events.
Tuesday is Halloween. Students may not dress up in costumes, face paint, or masks. We appreciate your assistance with this. There will also not be extended day on Halloween.
On Thursday, 11/2, our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser returns. We are working to raise money for student and staff support. Any profits from this fundraiser will go towards our student and staff funds. Mrs. Smith will be sharing more information about the logistics of this fundraiser.
On Friday, 11/3, our book fair kicks off. Information on grade level shopping days will be shared through Parent Square. On Tuesday, 11/7, we will host a shopping time from 11am-1pm where parents may come in with their children to shop the book fair if they wish. We do not have in person school on 11/7 because of Election Day. Feel free to come up to Lynwood to shop during that time if you would like.
On Tuesday, 11/7, we will not have in person school. Students will complete school from home, on their iPads, for this day. Teachers are working hard to make sure students are able to complete work on their iPads for that day. Feel free to reach out to your child's teacher via email, Parent Square, or class phone on that day if you run into technical issues. There will also not be extended day on this day.
On Thursday, 11/9, we will host Grandparents Breakfast. There was a survey for attendance numbers sent via Parent Square. This event is free and starts at 8am. We ask that all guest leave by 8:45am so that we can begin arrival. Visitors may park at any parking spot on the campus besides the car rider circle and the bus parking lot spots. Doors 1 and 3 will be unlocked for guests to come in. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria, selfie stations will be set up in the hallways, and the book fair will be set up in the library. The event will be open-house style, so feel free to leave when you are done. Starting at 8:30am, we will have staff in the gym for families to be able to drop students off early for when their visit is complete. We will have a movie playing for students while they wait for school to start.
On Friday, 11/10, we will host our Veterans Day event at 3pm in the gym. Multiple surveys and forms have been sent via Parent Square to account for guests for this event and also pictures for our veteran slide show. Each grade level is working on a specific way to honor and learn about veterans. We thank all veterans for their service and are thrilled to be able to honor them at this event.
Furthermore, on 11/15 is our picture retake day. The retake information sheet is posted below. There are also physical copies in the front office if you would like one for your student. We are so excited for all of the fun, learning opportunities coming up for our students. Have a great weekend!
With Lynwood Pride,
Jay Lovell

MSD Decatur Township 2023-2024 eLearning Guardian Guide
The Indiana Department of Education made a decision that a school corporation can only have a maximum of 3
asynchronous eLearning days for the 2023-2024 school year. Below is a summary of instructional types:
1. In-Person Instruction: instruction that is provided in real-time where the teacher and students are in the same
physical space.
2. Virtual Synchronous Instruction: instruction that is provided in real-time, but the teacher and students are in
different physical spaces. For example, the students may be at their home and the teacher could be at school or
their home and they are meeting over Webex.
3. Virtual Asynchronous Instruction: instruction that is provided at different times and the teacher and students
are in different physical spaces.
Asynchronous Overview: Nov 7th is our first eLearning day and it will be Asynchronous
Indiana Code: No more than three (3) days consisting of more than 50% virtual asynchronous instruction may be
considered instructional days that contribute to the 180 day school year.
*K-12 students will use Canvas to complete their eLearning work.
*Students work at their own pace on assignments.
*Teachers will have all learning activities posted to Canvas no later than 1 hour after typical school start time.
*Length of assignments posted will be roughly equivalent to 30 minutes per subject area.
*During the day, teachers will be available to respond to student questions submitted through email or Canvas
*Attendance is dependent on the completion of assigned work.
Synchronous Overview:
Indiana Code: Virtual Student Instructional Days must include at least 50% teacher-directed synchronous
instruction. If the school district has used its 3 Asynchronous days, all other days that students are not in the
building (inclement weather) are synchronous virtual days. This is when the teachers deliver content via Webex
to students in real-time.
*Each school will share their synchronous schedule.
*K-12 students will use Webex to meet with their teacher through a link provided by the teacher.
*Teachers will provide direct instruction.
*Lesson information like Webex meeting link and assignments will be available in Canvas.
*Students are to attend the Webex meeting, be on time and ready to interact and participate.
*Students are accountable for their work. Attendance is based on work completion/submission/meeting
attendance.
*Homework could still be assigned and the due date is at the discretion of the teacher.

Culture Guide
E= Events: We cannot control things that happen
R= Response: We can control our response to the event
O=Outcome: Having a proper response will get the desired outcome.
This concept is powerful for all of us. Daily, many things happen that are out of our control. We can lash out or we can pause, think, and then respond. Pausing for reflection allows us to get the outcome that we need and want.
