THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES
What’s the Skill?
What is one skill that helps a person build healthy relationships, develop strong leadership skills, and become a successful team player? Oh, and research has found that this skill also positively affects health, wealth, life satisfaction, and resilience...
Did you guess what it is?
Whatever that skill is, I want my children to have it. It’s the other kind of smarts.
It involves understanding what we’re feeling, what others are feeling, and learning how to guide our behavior by that knowledge. This superpower is called emotional intelligence. And it's now widely accepted to be more important to life success and happiness than academic achievement.
Why You Need Emotional Intelligence to Succeed at School:
Understanding and managing emotions give students the edge.

Preparing for School Year 2021-22
During the week of February 22nd, 6th-grade hybrid students met with their School Counselor to discuss graduation requirements and course options for 7th grade. Students were given their 2021-2022 Course Selection Forms to bring home for review and to be signed by a parent. If you have questions about your student’s classes for next year, please contact Mrs. James or Mrs. Casler.
Remote students will be receiving their Course Selection Forms in the mail. Students will need to choose an elective for the next school year, sign and return the form to LMS.
6th grade forms are due back to LMS by April 2, 2021

This week in SEL/Homeroom
This week in Homeroom: We have begun to introduce a new SEL topic called Jumping Your Hurdles. The concepts that students will begin to investigate this week (and next) address the fact that everyone experiences setbacks, but successful people “jump back up” and keep trying. They know that there are certain steps they can use to help them overcome their challenges and achieve success. Students will begin to dig into some of the steps that can be used to overcome a setback.
For further conversations with your student: Talk with your student about what it might look like when they struggle with something and follow steps and a plan to work at overcoming it until they find success. What does success (especially after hard work) feel like?
Thank you: Thank you to all families who have participated in our weekly SEL parent/school connection questions. We will no longer be creating a weekly question but will announce the winner for Q3’s drawing next week.
